Hair Braids

Where is the best place for my DD to get her hair braided? She got it done in Cozumel a couple of years ago after all our family pics were taken. :thewave:

We had our dd's hair done on the ship. We or should I say, I was worried about the exchanging of head lice, if we had it done on the docks on the islands. (I had heard of this from other Mom's , they can hide under the nails of the braider). On the ship they had containers of sterilizer for the combs just like at the salons, and they wore gloves. I was very satisfied with the 2 ladies that did our girls hair, their price was $1 a braid and we did their crown, not their whole head. Good luck, and be careful...

Hey thanks for the good advise. I think we will do it on the ship too. Where do you go to get the braids? Spa/saloon?

Ask at Guest Services, I can't quite remember the Deck #. It's in a lobby off of the elevators, just before you go out on one of the decks. It's not in a salon per say, but they were the hairdressers for the ship. Seems to me it's on the same deck as the teen lounge, but at the other end. We did it the night before we got off the ship, and wished we would have done it sooner.

My 11 yr. dd will tell you the braids from the ladies on Castaway Cay last longer and are tighter.

I second getting it done on the ship..My dd6 had it done elsewhere, and they NEVER stayed as well as when it was done on the ship..One other factor, the gentleness of these women on the is ship is also second to none.

It is done on deck 9, and a suggestion is to BOOK right away, the book up fast..Check your navigator for sign up, it is usually during the Sail away..

I second that! I got mine done at CC twice and both times they lasted until I couldn't stand them anymore!

Okay, I have a slightly different question about hair braids. What is your hair like when you finally take it out of the braids? Do they permanently damage your hair? I have long hair (mid-back) and worry about damage has prevented me from trying, though I thought it would be fun.

I have never had, nor my daugher permanently damaged hair, but it is quite dry...I put lots of conditioner before removing the braids, this is much easier on the removal part..ANd once washed, back to normal...Some hair loss, but I have a ton, and so does my daughter..

my dd's had their hair braided at CC on the first trip and on the ship on our 2nd cruise. CC braiders braid tighter. My girls had 24 braids each when finished at CC, $2 a braid + tip. On the ship they had 13 braids each at $2 per braid + tip.

If you want it done on the ship you must get a reservation. They make appointments at 5 on sail away day in front of the Walt Disney Theatre. Appointments fill up fast. I left the sail away party at 4:45 to be the first in line.

My DD11 got her hair braided while on the Wonder. When we boarded we saw in the Navigator that they were taking appointments starting at 2:30 pm on our sailing day on Deck 9 mid-ship. We went there and there were two woman already braiding on deck and also taking appointments. We made an appointment for later that evening on Deck 10 forward off the elevator. DD was only going to braid the front, but afterwards decided to braid the entire head. So we had to make another appointment to do the rest. It turned out really nice and she was very happy. But at $2 per braid is was a bit costly $$$! To keep it looking fresh she slept with a scarf at night and used oil and sunscreen on her scalp. She washed her hair with the braids and once she takes out the braids her hair has no damage and is back to normal.
