I heard that there was hair braiding on the ship. I was wondering if this was true and if so how much is it? I know that you can get your hair braided at many of the stops. Please let me know. I am going on a cruise in May. :)

On our 2/23/02 magic cruise they had hair braiding on Deck 9. I do not know how much it costs, but it is a set-price, not negotiable. I believe you had to make reservations, because I overheard someone say they were booked for the remainder of the day.

Is this available on the Wonder as well? Where is it offered? Do they let you know times in your navigators or do you just see them somewhere?

It is done only on sea days...normally on Deck 9 by the Goofy pool (underneath one of the little gazebo type things). It is $1/braid ($.50 more for long hair) and $2/cornrow. When I cruised (march 2nd, 2002), they weren't taking appointments...they just kept telling me to come back. Everytime I tried to come back, other people made it there before me. I ended up getting cornrows done in St. Maarten on the beach, and the rest of my head done in Castaway Cay (for the same price as on the ship). Hope this helps!

I also was on the 3/2 cruise and they did take reservations. It was done at the gazebo by the goofy pool on Sun, Mon and Thursday. Sunday was all booked up, but they told me to come back at 9:00 am Monday. I got there at 9:00 am, no one was there, asked a cm and they said it was changed to 10:00. We went back around 9:30 and the braiders arrived 10:00 am. There were about 5 or 6 other girls waiting also and they took all our reservations (my dd had to go back at noon). Carla did her hair which came out great. People were coming up when my dd was getting braided and the braiders told them they were booked up for the day to come back thursday morning to make reservations.

Wow, I'm telling my daughter to bring her little battery powered braiding gadget and not even think about asking me for that money. Hey, I just fit another T-shirt into the budget!!! Aren't these boards great!

Oh, one more bit of info... Cornrows will expose parts of your scalp where the sun don't usually shine. Bring along that 'stick' type of sunscreen to run along the exposed scalp.

I never had my girls hair braided before. They want to do the front part (head band style) Has anyone done that and if so how much does that cost. Not sure if its corn rows or braids. and about how long does it take to do the head band only part.

Thanks for the info

The headband style is what you call "cornrows" It is when they put the beads in back to the headband area. So that is the $2.00 per braid. My DD had it done twice on the last 2 DCL cruises. Once at CC and once in St. Maarten. They did 25 cornrows each time X $2.00 each it was $50.00.

We just got backfromthe Wonder. THey don't braid onthe boatand my two girlswanted it doneright away so in Nassau,we stopped at the hair braiding center and had them turned into Bahamian princessess. It waswell worth the money, yes we bargained alot! very clean and the lasting memory they could show off when we got back to school. It was in the 80's on Castaway Cay so we used sunscreen in a pump bottle(50) and they were fine. Some friends had their daughters' done at Freeport- everything was clean as long as you didn't have it done in the market.I really encourage you to let your girls do it!!!:pinkbounc The hair band style was the favorite- they quoted $70.00,you could get them down to between $40 and $50 in Nassau, a bit cheaper in Freeport. It takes about 15-20 minutes.
