I put a roast on low in my slow cooker for tomorrow and completely forgot about it. I just woke up to an odd smell and was getting totally freaked out by it. We had to turn the heat on tonight and I thought maybe something was dead in the furnace but couldn't figure out why it smelled like hamburger helper. I walked all around the house (even the kitchen) and I still couldn't figure it out. So I hopped on here because I couldn't fall back asleep worrying about the odd smell and it just dawned on me what it is.

 I'm going back to bed now. :rolleyes1

Good thing you figured it out now instead of the morning with a melted slow cooker.

Too funny! I've done stuff like that before. Ya know the - Where are my sunglasses and there on my head or Where is my cell phone and it's in my hand.

Hope your roast turns out to be yummy! Now get some sleep. :goodvibes

Thanks for the ******* comment zmskskirt...much appreciated. :thumbsup2

It is a slow cooker set to a certain amount of time to slow cook and then set to warm.

Since you have a small number of posts and you jumped right into the debates from post 1...I'm guessing we've probably met before. :rolleyes1

i had a roomate in college that would come home from a night out, put a pizza in the oven and fall asleep...we woke up many times to strange smells, smoke, and the like...i know, not funny, but now we joke about it all the time. so it happens.

Been there and done things like that too. Hate that feeling, you know you smell something but just can't find it.

Also, aren't slow cookers meant to be used for along time (hence the name slow cooker)? I don't understand the post of burning down the house.... :confused3

hehe!! MosMom, I can't tell you the number of times I have done stuff like that. (Not because I don't know the number, but more because it would be awfully embarrassing... :lmao: )

Happy Mother's Day! Enjoy your roast!

I don't understand the comments about melted slowcookers or endangering the family either. Nothing was worng with the slow cooker, she just smelled the food cooking and forgot she had put it on.
I've done that before, usually I'll start dreaming about eating something, wake up and smell "it". It will take time for it to register in my half asleep mind that the crockpot is on.

I don't think people were trying to be mean. They probably thought she meant she had accidently left it on, not that she was purposely cooking it all night. That was my first thought too - that she had accidently left it on from dinner after having it on all day and that something was starting to burn.

The funny part is you walking through the kitchen trying to find the source of the smell, lol. I could see myself doing something like that!
