The queue is more scary than the ride (for me). I enjoyed the ride itself, but my claustrophobia had me exiting the queue once about half-way through the wait.
This pretty much confirms my original thought. Last time I went to Universal with a friend, she went on most of the thrill rides and I held her bag while she enjoyed the rides.
With one travel partner, I am the bag holder and the other one, for the most part, I'm the rider. When I'm the bag holder, I've found things near most of the big rides where I can take in another ride that the adrenaline junkie doesn't appreciate (i.e. she goes on Hulk and I head to the Cat in the Hat), wander into shops, grab a snack, or just people watch and plan our next move. My friend always worries that I'm going to get bored waiting, but I never have any trouble finding enjoyable things to do. However, I don't ever wait in line with her (I don't understand why for the most part) and we are always clear about where we are going to meet up - particularly if I have her phone.
When I am the rider, the same things apply, but my friend similarly has some favorites that she hits - usually rides that I'm not as much of a favorite of. For instance, I can ride Men in Black 3-4 times while she goes on Gringotts at least once.

The little tunnel areas aren't fun at all. I did find that the social distancing stickers helped out a bit in those areas compared to when they'd get packed with people.
