This may have already been covered but...

How do most of you typically or plan to handle money? Do you use cash, travelers checks, or credit cards for the most part or a combination of some sort. DH-to-be is starting to get excited but now is driving me nutty about money. He thought we'd just hit the ATMS as needed but I don't see the point in paying all those fees. I'd rather use travelers checks for the cruise portion of our trip for piece of mind and general ease of use. I don't mind using the credit cards for the actualy on board part but that's it. Neither of us plan on any major shopping so....

How do you handle it?

If you really need help I'll be more than glad to help you handle it - lol

Actually I was making our budget envelopes this morning. What goes where, how much, is it being paid in Disney Dollars (charged to KTTW card), will we need cash (porter tips) or can I charge (hotel rooms before cruise) ?
I believe there is a safe in all rooms. If not, the purser (is there one) will be getting many visits from us.

When I got off the Norwegian Sea last Dec 7th (yes same departure date this year but this year it's a 7night cruise) I walked off with a zero balance! What a great feeling. Im hoping to do the same this year but this cruise DH & DS will be with me too.

Keep in mind that the ships are on a cashless system. You have to provide a credit card at the port, then you use your KTTW card to charge everything back to your room. At the end, you can either keep the charges on the credit card you provided or pay with cash. But none of the shops or lounges accept cash or disney dollars on the ship.

There is a safe in every room, but only the KTTW card that opens it initially can open it throughout the cruise.

Unless something has changed with the safes (and anything is possible) the KTTW card that locks the safe is the one that has to open it. If one person is always responsible for locking the safe then that person will also have to open it. However, once it is open - any of the KTTW cards will lock it.

Have read elsewhere that any card with a mag strip can open/close the safe.

Once on the ship you do not need/cannot use cash (except for tips in Dueling Pianos).

If you go on a Disney excursion, that will be charged to your room too. You may want cash for tips for the tour operators. If you arrange your own excursion or go shopping cash/credit cards will be needed. We did not take travelers checks with us on the cruise. They would probably work at larger establishments, but not for street vendors.

So on the ship - no cash, anytime off of the ship - cash/credit is needed.

Remember to tip the porters at the Port.

We put down a credit card when we checked in, but we went every other day and paid off our balance with Traveler's Checks...the only charge to our credit card was a last minute Shutters charge of around $20 the last night of the cruise. BYW...we brought $1200 in Traveler's Checks for a 7 day cruise and had over $100 left...

That's what he's thinking as well. That is, on our 4 day cruise we really wont need that much other than tipping, shore excursions, and the odd alcoholic drink. Sounds like cash and credit cards are best for this vacation. Hmm......

A slight correction to an earlier post. You do not have to show a credit card. I marked on my documents that I was going to pay by travelers checks and that's what I did.

I am also going to bring most of the money in travelers checks. I will bring cash for room service tips and for the Islands in case something catches my eye in gold.:smooth: I am going to bring the credit card but we do not plan on using it!!

Can you put money down in advance ( instead of giving a credit card ) ?
