I just wanted to post a quick review of our visit to the onboard health center, since that is not an experience that (I hope) most people experience or post about. My 8 year old daughter ended up getting her first ear infection on our recent cruise. It was cruise 6 for us on DCL, and was the first time we even needed to try and locate the health center. I was super worried about the cost, but I was very surprised at how reasonable the fee to see the doctor was, and even more surprised at how inexpensive the cost of her medications were. I am not sure if I am able to post the cost, so I will only say that it was under $200 total for the visit and 2 antibiotics, one oral and one liquid drops for her ear. We were also provided a detailed bill so that we can submit it to our insurance for possible reimbursement. The charge for the visit was added to our shipboard account.

The entire process was easy, and the staff were all wonderful. All in all, we were in the center for less than 20 minutes from walking in the door, to walking out the door.

I do realize that in our case, it was a very routine medical issue that did not require extensive testing or treatment. However, seeing how well stocked the facility was, as well as how wonderful the staff were, it has put my mind more at rest for the future should we ever need more intensive care while onboard. It's just one area of the cruise that most people will hopefully never need to visit, but also an area that perhaps causes some anxiety.

We too had to visit the Magic's health center in January, and we were very satisfied with the care as well as the cost. Our medical insurance doesn't cover us outside the US, but it was easy to file a claim with the DCL insurance (Aon Affinity). I had to file with my regular insurance and send Aon a copy of the notice that they wouldn't cover it, and then we were reimbursed in full by Aon.

I broke my toe in Bermuda last year on the fantasy and was shocked at how affordable it was to get xrays and treatment! And the team over there gave me wellness check calls every day for the rest of the cruise, too. It was a very nice experience!
