He's been doing his for over 10 years. He is very meticulous and makes sure he has seen official records before adding anyone to his tree.

At first the connections were fairly quick to find - he used to go up to the Family History Record Centre in Islington (which is no longer there) to look up details. This would only show partial details and when he thought he had a match he would order and pay for a copy of the birth/marriage/death certificate only to find out it wasn't a member of his family after all.

He has also used parish records and census entries amongst other things.

He has found that he even needs to verify information given to him by family members as this is often incorrect or someone known as x all their life was really called y.

He has also been hampered by the same names being handed on generation after generation. (He has even come across the same name being used for the brother of a deceased child.)

Just rcently he has joined an ancestory web site. He has discovered other people from different branches of his family that have posted family trees only for my DH to spot an error in them. (As I said he is meticulous at finding supporting documentation.)

It is a very time consuming and potentially costly hobby.

Good luck with your search.

That is so funny! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

I spent a few years tracing our family tree but found it can be quite costly, very timeconsuming and extremely frustrating!! :headache:

Luckily my sister took it over ~ she doesn't have children or a mortgage so has more time and pennies! ;)
