Had to Cancel my May Trip :(

As a nurse, the few patients that I cared for that truly woke up from their coma could usually remember at least part of what was said in their hospital room. Your words of encouragement surely must be helping. My good wishes for your FIL's full recovery. Threehearts

I am so sorry to hear about your FIL..my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Prayers from the Prater's to you and yours! God Bless...

We are sending our prayers and well wishes for Jerry and the rest of your family.

Well... he is still on a ventilator. They are putting on the halo today and doing a trachiotomy and feeding tube tomorrow. He recognizes everyone and shows emotions. But usually he is sleeping from all the morphine. He recovered well from his shoulder surgery. Now the trauma ICU doctor told us some grim news: that he would never come home. That he would need 24 hour care for the rest of his life. Of course this is coming from the same doctor who told us he had extensive brain damage from not breathing for approx 15 minutes and that he would never wake up from the coma or ever recognize anyone if he did. He did wake up from the coma and does recognize everyone and can even mouth "I Love You". He can even wiggle his toes on command, we are still working on the upper body though. I think doctors probably always tell you the worst case scenario so if things don't get better they can say that's what they told us, or if they get better they can say it's a miracle. We are just taking it day by day and hoping for some improvement each day, which is happening thanks to everyone and their prayers. You guys are such a wonderful support group. I have been printing out all these responses each day to take to the hospital and show all of our family. You all are so thoughtful and my entire family thanks you :grouphug: . Keep praying please, for him, for the doctors, and for us, it is definitely working. God bless.

Excellent health. Thanks for asking. That's what makes it so difficult to handle. We would of never expected something like this to happen. No one does, we all think we are invisible to these accidents. But he is such a strong man. We all joke about how strong he is. He has gotten hurt numerous times working before, of course not like this, but whenever he did he would just get back up and continue working. For instance, he cut the tip of his finger off before at work (he's in construction) and just wrapped it up in paper towels and electrical tape and continued working. Jokingly we would put paper towels and electrical tape in his Christmas stocking every year. Two weeks before this incident, he shot a nail through his foot. He went to the hospital, but since it was taking so long he pulled the nail out, left and went back to work. This man is the toughest person I've ever met. But on top of that and more important he has the biggest heart. He is so giving and will help anyone out anytime they need it. Everyone else comes first before himself. I couldn't have asked for a better father-in-law. :goodvibes

:grouphug: Still praying for your FIL. He sounds very much like my late grandfather. :grouphug:

Boy, he sure sounds like a tough ole Texan! My thoughts will be with you and your family. I'm not the most religious person, but I DO believe in the power of prayer, and you sure have a lot of people talking to the Man upstairs, so just keep positive and support each other.

Him being in such good health before this incident might help in a big way. That could be why he is doing so much better then the doctors thought he would...here's hoping he does one day get out of the hospital....which I am sure he will...he sounds like a tough guy.....you are very lucky to have such a wonderful man as your FIL. :flower:

I am very glad to hear he has made some great improvements...I will keep praying that he continues to make more!!! I believe doctors these days guess at alot...I think sometimes, we know just as much as they do when it comes to our loved ones and their health!!! :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

You and your family are in my prayers as well. God Bless! :grouphug:
