I've not had a good week with doctors. First had my eyes dialated for the first time ever and then he told me to drive home looking like this:eek:

Now today I had to have the insides of both nostrils caulderized(burnt) and my nose is hurting so bad. I'm not supposed to blow it or sneeze because it will bleed like crazy but how in the heck am I not supposed to sneeze?? Anyways, some suggestions to get the throbbing to stop? I took an alieve but I'm thinking a frozen pack of peas on the nose just to numb it. Any suggestions, please help:snooty: (I'll use that smiley so you can see up my nose:rotfl: )

Ok - my son has had this done as well. Did they not tell you about Ocean spray? It is just a saline nasal spray - call them and ask if there is any reason why you should not use it.

As for not sneezing, here is what my son does - when you start having that itchy I am gonna sneeze feeling - cough. But like a kind of big airy cough - if that make sense. (I so wish I could demonstrate that for you!)

I had mine cauterized once...I took Ibuprofin..Motrin Advil etc..It helps with the swelling

I've had this done myself. Go for the frozen vegetables. I used corn myself, but I suppose it doesn't matter. :lmao:

My DH had that done a month or so ago. He was pretty sore, too. The ice sounds like a good idea. For him the pain didn't last long. He was sore the day it was done and the day after. He was pretty good after that.

They said to use it next week but nothing until then and it's killing me. Especially when they burnt four different places in one nostril. I'm being a big baby I know lol

If it is any consulation - the pain usually doesn't go past the first day. My poor kiddo has REALLY bad nose bleeds and has had this done a couple of times now and they want to do it again. UGH!

Ouch, I hope you feel better soon! Frozen peas might actually help ease the pain!

My DD had her adenoids removed and had a couple juicy blood vessels cauterized last year. DD complained of throbbing that night, even with the tylenol 3, so I called the doctor, and he said it would be ok to give her a sinus pill. That gave DD some relief and she was able to rest.

Oh, and they told her about the nose blowing (don't do it) and sneezing (not to try to hold it back because that just puts more pressure in the nose and try not to sneeze really hard, and, oh yeah, try to sneeze through the mouth).

I have to have mine done a couple more times because of sinus problems and nose bleeds but how in the heck am I supposed to stop the snot drainage if I can't sneeze or blow my nose?? I'm dabbing like an 80 year old southern belle:lmao:

Poor you. The nose area hurts so much. I have had this done, it will subside, but a frozen vegetable bag is a great idea. Whatever helps. Hugs to you, and I hope it is much better in the morning.

My son just read what you wrote and snorted out loud!! :lmao: He says that is exactly what it is like. Well - except for the southern belle part. He says just keep wiping and it will get better once you can rinse out with the Ocean spray.

And as for the sneezing, he said it is more of a cross between a cough and a really loud huff through your mouth. And you might have to do it more than once until the sneeze urge goes away.

Have you tried Aquaphor?

It's available OTC these days, but back when I used it for a bunch of moles I had removed from various areas on my body that were cautarized (I know, gross), I was prescribed the stuff. I don't know if you were advised not to use any ointments, but if you can, I highly recommend this stuff. I can relate to that terrible, painful burning after cautarization. The Aquaphor was very soothing and cooling to me. I know for a fact you can get it at Target, and I have seen it at many other places also.

Good luck and feel better!

I can use the saline spray right away?? They mentioned it at the office but said not until next week. Tell your son I said thank you for the support I need it. It's a sad day when a girl just can't blow her nose.

Tina, I hope you feel better soon, No pies in the face, and no going near the lake for a bit!

Well, his ENT sent him home with the stuff and my son swore by it. But it sounds like your doc is different.

I guess you could try my solution. Chocolate. It is pretty much the answer to everything. Would you like me to send you some of the treats I got at the Pirate and Princess party last night?

Oh I appreciate the thought but I'm going to wait to my sweets gets home for some snuggles and ice cream:goodvibes I'll have my pity party lol

Hi, I'm sorry you are hurting. :(

I've had to have my nose cauterized multiple times because of recurrent nosebleeds, so I know how you're feeling. When I've had it done, the pain is usually lasts only the first day and then subsides - although, until the 'scab' from the cauterization falls off/out, my nose would feel tight and hard inside. A very strange sensation.

I know doctors vary in how they do things, but my ENT would put a dab of Bacitraycin antibiotic ointment into my nose immediately after he'd cauterized it, and instructed me to do that twice a day for the next few days or so as that would help healing and make my nose feel more comfortable. By which method was your nose cauterized, do you know? My doc used silver nitrate on me. And your doctor cauterized both sides of your nose at the same time? Ow. Mine wouldn't do that, I don't know why.

The saline spray and Aquaphor suggestions were good ones. I've used them both and they do help. Also soothing is a product called Ponaris Nasal Emollient, which is liquid nose drops. Helps with dryness a lot.

I hope you feel better very soon. I really sympathize with what you're going through, especially the trying not to sneeze part! (btw, I'd read that pressing down on the area directly below your nose and above your upper lip suppresses the "sneeze urge". I've employed this technique and it does work...USUALLY. lol) Take care.

Tip to not sneeze: When you feel a sneeze coming on, rub your tounge against the roof of your mouth, back and forth a couple times. Sounds insane, but it works like a charm.

Hope you feel better soon!
