Had my hands on a D90 today.

What can I say? I loved it. Huge, bright, clear 3 inch screen. Fits my hand like a glove. Nice, nice, nice. And with an ISO of 3200 and 4.5 fps and such a nice upgraded sensor, it would be perfect for my needs. I really have no interest in the video portion of the camera, though think that every so often I might use the live view.
I sure wish it had been available when I needed a new camera in May.
Waiting for my D80 to "wear out" any day now...sigh....

When the D300 came out, I was hoping my D80 would wear out, too. No such luck. 20,000 shutter clicks, no hot pixels, I've never even cleaned the sensor. This thing just keeps going! Guess, I'll *have* to look at new lenses instead.

They pulled out three at the Circuit City where I work part time in Apex NC

I was at the camera shop on Thursday and I refrained from even looking at the Nikon bodies (hold me back!). I was hoping to catch sight of a 70-200mm f/2.8 VR. It's on my wish list at B&H and it's been out of stock forever (sigh). I have the money and I really want one, but it looks like it will be on backorder for who knows how long. So...I looked at the tripods instead. :)

The 70-200 was rumored to be in "update phase" hence the manufacturing flow of the current model was just about nil.

I broke mine a few weeks ago, it took nikon repair in NY over a month to get the replacement parts to fix it (new aperture diaphragm, it was stuck at F2.8)

But likely they would have announced it at the same time as the D90, so maybe in the spring?

That's a looonnnggg time to wait, especially with these new Nikon bodies being announced all the time, and I'm using a D50. How long I can go without spending my $$$ remains to be seen. ;)

What do you "have" to look at?
By the way, from the pictures you post, I'd say you're doing great work with that D80.

Just realized I never answered this ....

Well, it goes like this - I made a very critical error in my little photography hobby. I purchased the Nikon 70-200 2.8 VR lens. Oh my - big mistake! I love this lens and now I don't want to use anything else! The IQ is amazing. So, now I *need* to upgrade my Tamron 28-75 2.8 lens. I would like one of the Nikkor 2.8 lenses. Not sure which one yet. I like the focal length of the Tamron, so the Nikkor 24-70 would be a logical choice, but that lens is not cheap! So, not sure what I'll end up doing.

BTW, thanks for the kind words regarding my photos.

No that is not a cheep lens. I believe it is the same price as the 70-200 f/2.8 VR. I'm going to rent it to use at my aunts wedding next weekend. I'm looking forward to using.

You believe correctly. I won't be rushing out to buy that lens anytime soon, but you've gotta have goals, right? The 17-55 is a pretty highly regarded lens, and there are some used ones available at a pretty reasonable price (reasonable being a relative term!). But the focal length is a little short for my style of shooting.

Go ahead and hurt me - post some photos after the wedding. I'd be anxious to see them!
