I honestly haven't a CLUE what they are called, so I will describe what they were! LOL

* grape leaf stuffed with a rice/beef mixture
* hummus with pita bread
* grilled bread with a black olive and garlic pate
* ground beef meatball things
* potato/zucchini/something pasta thingy (almost like a lasagna)
* flaky pastry with spinach and cheese inside

DH had bacon wrapped turkey with onions and tomatos and roasted potatos. Not very Greekish, really. Friends had pork gyros with rice, and beef kabobs with rice. I had a sampler ;)

All of it was SO good! Little pricey, but good.

What do you get?

I adore Greek food (alas not a lot of choice here in Austin)

The grape leaves are sometimes called Dolmas. My guess is that the meat with ground lamb (but maybe beef). There are vegetarian varieties also.

One of my favorites is Saganaki (sp?), an appitizer that is cheese doused with Ouzo (again, sp?) and briefly set on fire. Served with lemon and bread- so good!

When I was in Toronto, I had a lemony soup with rice that was also very good- forgot what it was called.

YUM YUM YUM!!!!!

I love the taziki sauce that goes with the gyros. It's the cucumber cream sauce......mmmmmmmmm!

DH loves saganaki. Opa!!!!

Do any of your restaurants have bellydancers?

Hello,

You had…

* dolmadas
* hummus with pita bread
* grilled bread with alifi apo elies
* keftedes
* mousaka
* spanokopita

I love taramosalata and gyros…

Oooowww. I love sanganki! We go to the Mad Greek in Cleveland Heights, have been going there since 1975 and love it. The yogurt dressing on their salads is to die for. Yum.

I don't care for lamb but love anything else on the menu.

I LOVE gyros!!!!! I also love baklava. I make really good baklava and DH conned me into making it for some friends. So, I guess I'm making baklava this weekend. :teeth:

Mmm...I love stuffed grape leaves. My dad used to make them for me and it's actually one of our family traditions to have them at Thanksgiving right along with the turkey. It was always our requested birthday meal as well.

Now at a restaurant, I always get saganaki just because I love it when they set it on fire and everyone yells "OPA!!"

Aimeedyan, no baklava? You got to try that next time for dessert. Pastichio(sp) is a good baked macaroni dish. Gyros are good too. Here in town, Greek fest is the same weekend as Italian fest. Hard choice to make.

I love souvlaki, spanakopita, gyros and baklava!! And nothing beats a good Greek salad. We don't really have any Greek food around here. Used to be a chain called Olgas that was good.

Can't wait for the Food & Wine Festival!

One of my best friends growing up was Nick Stamoulos. I loved his mother's spanokopita and still order it whenever in a Greek restaurant today. Yum. I love Greek food, all of it!

Skip the dishes, gimme the baklava!!!!

I'm Greek, and I love my yiayia's stuffed grapeleaves. If I never have moussaka or baklava in my life it will be too soon, though. I've NEVER liked moussaka, and I got sick from baklava once. Perhaps I will hint for some stuffed grapeleaves when I talk to yiayia this morning:p

My fav, although hard to find sometimes, is pasta with mizithra cheese. Yummy! I also love gyros and souvlaki (with tzatziki sauce of course!). If you ever find somewhere that makes fresh loukamades, go for it! They are these awesome fried donuts soaked in honey and cinnamon. They make them while you watch at our local Greek festival each year and they are a real highlight for me (and Dh). They come out so hot they can melt the styrofoam container they serve them in! I also love the coffee frappes. Man, now I'm hungry!

DH, DS and I all love Greek food. One of the best Greek restaurants we went to was in Italy....believe it or not. I love gyros, soulvaki and moussaka (I can only eat a little because it is so rich). Taziki sauce is the bomb, I love Greek salad, Greek olives and the stuffed grape leaves. However, I am not a big fan of baklava or oozo.

We were too stuffed for dessert, but I've had that before and knew we could find it other places, so we skipped it.

And yes, we had that sauce with the dill and yogurt - YUMMY!!!

Souvlaki and saganaki (sp)! There's an annual Greek fest held at the Greek Orthodox Church in my neighborhood, and every year my dad and I go and pig out!! We had to miss it this year due to our WDW vacation, and we were very bummed.

I like the puff pastry balls too...forget what they're called. They drip honey. Yum!!
