Family of 5 went to Blue Bayou last week.
Havent been in a few years, and thier menu had changed.
Asked waitress three questions: 1) on the kids meal, are the carrot and celery sticks mixed as dd can have carrots but not celery. Seemed like a simple Questions, but waitress purposfully wouldnt anwer. She said let me get this straight, you dont want carrots and celery with your carrots and celery? She was being a real winner.... since I couldnt get an answer and my dd is allergic to celery I asked if they could substitute anything else. She said they had nothing else they could give her. Ok at this point I start getting a little hot under the collar. I say bring her no celry and carrots and dropped it. 2) Next I have a question about a sauce that comes on a steak, and asked to get it on the side. She said the chef would have a problem. Grrrr..... 3) then I asked if I could mix the kids lighted cup things to get a tink cup but a buzz light. She rolled her eyes and overly sweetly (can you picture it?) said but of course I can do that. Our entire table was uncomfortable with her.

I dont see where those three questions are out of line for a group of five people. Do you? We paid $150 for that meal and I think a waitress should be able to answer a few questions without being a witch. (She also told my 7 year old son to watch out when he stood up (yes he stood up a million times) to wave at the people on PotC who were calling out and waving. We were by the water and he was buggng nobody.. but her I guess.

Also, a heavy set man came it and sat next to us, bumping into table, and a waiter and a glass of liquid dropped and broke. She rolled her eyes and shook her head at the heavy man. RUDE! It was an accident.

Geeze, I thught Disneyland was supposed to be fun. :confused3
She got a big fat ZERO tip which we have NEVER done before. I told the manager about her attitude. I really feel like writing a letter.

What a horrible experience. I think not tipping her and going to the manager was the best you can do, Money speaks volumes and hopefully when she saw the big fat "0" tip and got a talk from her manager that she changed her attitude.

I hope the rest of your trip was met with more magic and happiness :)

It looks like she needs to go back to Disney School and re-learn the "Disney Way" Courtesy, efficiency & show is what I think it is.:)

Or maybe she was just having a BAD day:rolleyes:

Anyway, I hope the rest of your trip was/is better:laughing:sometimes just laughing about it helps:laughing::laughing::laughing:

Yes the rest of our trip was great! We now call French Market and Cafe Orleans our faves instead! :thumbsup2

Last time my wife and I went there we had a horrible time too. Long story short, it was busy and there wasn't enough room to stand inside the wait area so we were with another couple just outside the door. They never came outside to call our names even though they told us to stand out there so we got skipped over! We were so mad, so we just went and snacked in the park instead.

Might have to rethink the BB. I was a server for many years and do not tolerate shoddy service. At all. I also order like a PITA and we plan on sharing lots. I tip well however and am always polite. :goodvibes I won't wait to complain though, I get a manager asap.

I think you did the right thing. Once in awhile you get wait staff that thinks the tip is a given. Not true.
I think you should also write a "guest concern" letter to Disney. A young CM at the Tiki Room once let us know (long story) that Disney takes guest concerns seriously. :thumbsup2

I'm so glad you told the manager. Otherwise she would have just thought "well see, I prejudged them well as they weren't going to give me a tip anyway". But now she'll be spoken to.

We had a bad server at Cafe Orleans ON my birthday. I'm pretty sure he prejudged us (even though DH is a generous tipper), didn't like our order (DH and I shared a salad and ratatouille), requested no parsley or whatever that is on the pommes frites for DS (nothing else on the menu he can or would eat, it turns out). There were large groups of people ordering appetizers and entrees AND desserts who were seated after us and left before us, because he was so slow. And they were in his section.

DH knows I don't like making a scene, so he said he was going to the restroom, but really went to talk to the manager instead. She comped part of our meal. In the meantime, it was taking nearly half an hour to get my beignets, which because the Birthday celebration stuff going on SHOULD have been special for me, but were not special at all (and I *think* the birthday person is supposed to get a free one), and we just had him box them up to go we were so tired of being there at that point.

Because the server had done one or two things for us (got some extra goat cheese b/c DS loves it and something else), and because part of the meal was comped and we knew the mgr would be talking with him, we did tip him a fraction... Sure do hope he learned something. He could have gotten a lovely tip from DH if he had made my birthday even normal, let alone lovely, instead of the time-sucking annoying experience that it was.

Reading the OP's recap of the Blue Bayou experience, my first thought was, "Wow! How did that person even get hired by Disney? How did she slip past the Disney etiquette police?":rotfl2: Every now and then - once in a very blue moon - it seems we all encounter or witness a CM who seems to not fit the Disney standard of customer service at all, and you wonder how they got there!!! Even if she was having a bad day - and everyone is entitled to have a bad day - it seems like the BB server still could have handled the situation in a less snarky way.

I haven't been to BB since 2008, and our server (also a female) was not the problem. She was quite pleasant and nice. I was more annoyed with my friend, who ordered a piece of chocolate cake that ended up having an ingredient in it that she couldn't eat, so rather than let the nice server know what the problem was and get a different dessert instead (like the cookie boat, which was still on the menu at that time), she proceeded to complain to me the whole time about how this cake was not the cake she wanted and it was misrepresented on the menu, blah blah. All she had to do was say to the server, "I'm sorry. I didn't realize this cake had [fill in the blank with whatever the evil ingredient was] in it. Could I possibly get something else instead?"

So, in that case, it was my friend's fault and not the fault of the Blue Bayou. BUT, before we were seated (and it took just over 45 minutes to get a table), we dealt with a rude, cold, snippy hostess at the front check-in area. Alyssa from Texas - that's right! I am calling her out!!:rotfl2: She was unpleasant and unfriendly to us and a few others, but, strangely, very nice to some people from Texas who were waiting for a table! It could have been a bad night for her, but we still didn't like her!

We had a bad server at Carnation Cafe back in 2008 - which usually has good service. My meat loaf was different than what it had been in the past for a couple of reasons, and there were no onions anywhere on it. I asked the server if the recipe had changed, and she tried to convince me that the onions were hiding on the plate somewhere but I just wasn't seeing them!:rotfl2::rotfl2: I wondered if she could ask the chef if they had changed how they made it - just out of curiosity - or if I got short-changed on the onions and gravy, and she simply shrugged at me and walked off. I never got my question answered. Then, we had to wait 20 minutes to get apple pie a la mode, which was supposed to be warmed up but was room temperature-to-cool at best when it reached our table. I sent a complaint to Guest Services, mailed in my receipt, and they sent me food vouchers for $30. So they do try to make it right if they can.

OP: so sorry that happened to you. You did the right thing -- without question. I hate when CMs forget the Disney standard.

To perhaps elevate the mood of this post a bit, the first time I went to BB, the server was extra pleasant. We really liked her. I made a point to tell the manager that she was great.

Thats nice to hear. BB has always been one of our most fave places. We love the pirate ride, and this is such an extension. I wont hold this against BB at all. The food was fine. I'm glad you told the manager about a good experience! :thumbsup2

Nice screenname, BTW -- I loved the classic Land of the Lost! I used to post a lot to the forum on landofthelost.com

And this is part of why we always eat at Cafe Orleans and have not yet been to Blue Bayou... from what I understand, they share a kitchen, so their gumbo is the same anyway!

I loved it too! Until the movie came out, almost nobody knew what a Sleestack was :rotfl2:

I LOVED Land of the Lost as a kid!! There was a Land of the Lost marathon on the Syfy channel here in AZ a few months ago. DD8 LOVED it, she always asks when it will be on again!

I own seasons 1 and 2 on DVD. Season 3? Wouldn't even rent it. Uncle Jack? I want my money back.

I have probably eaten there 15-20 times and have never had a problem like described. Last year they brought me a little chocolate cake and candle and 3 of the staff sang me happy birthday quietly. To each their own.

Jack
