I have been wanting to really get involved with volunteering for Habitat for Humanity for about the last 10 years and just my schedule and their schedule and other things I was involved in didn't allow me to get more involved. I volunteered at a site once and it just made my heart feel good. I receive our local newsletter and in one of the last few they had a volunteer survey. Well last week I finally got called and asked if I'd like to attend the board meeting last night to see maybe where I'd like to get involved. I went to the board meeting and WOW!!!! In just a few minutes I'm going to call the President of the board and offer what I'd like to do....

To give a bit of a background on me - about 10 years ago I was divorced and living with my dad (we had moved in with a bit before this) because we just couldn't afford to be on our own. A few years later dd started school here in the town that I'm in and I had been working up here. I never had any idea that I would ever get married again nor ever be able to afford to buy a house on my own. I had started to look into what HfH required to see if this is something I was going to be able to do. Fortunately I found dh and was able to get married and we have a very nice house thus fulfilling my dream. Now I so want a part in helping to fufill others dreams too. Currently there is a house being built for a single mother and her 7 year old daughter who I got to meet last night....and seeing the excitement in both of theirs as the update on their house was given and the dedication date was set was beyond wonderful!!!!!!!

Does anyone else volunteer with Habitat for Humanity or belong on the board or any of the committees??? Just a curious question.

I have done this with some of my HS sctudents. They love it! They get really mad when there isn't enough to do!

Not me personally, but our church is involved. Our youth group regularly goes to work with HfH and HfH is always present during our annual Alternative Christmas Mall (where you can make donations to the charity of your choice and get a gift certificate to give as a gift...i.e. "A donation has been made to Habitat For Humanity in your name by ___ Mery Christmas.")

I know of others that have done something similiar but a little different..

It was called Chester County Good Works, and they worked on home that were already standing but needed quite a bit of work.

My DH helped with a home of an 86 year old lady.. his group did stuff drywall, painting, rehanging doors, laying floor, etc...

But actually they got a lot of volunteers... the college I worked for did projects with them as well.

I haven't had any direct involvement with HfH, but my dad was in charge of HfH's efforts in Ashtabula County (Ohio) when he lived in Conneaut. Although he is not handy with a hammer, he was very good at organizing volunteers and getting local businesses to contribute money, property, and hardware to various HfH projects.

Go for it Chris. I'm sure that HfH will appreciate any help that you can give them.

You KNOW it's here in Georgia!

My sister has volunteered and loved it, too!
