HA vs. regular 2Bedroom villa at BCV

I've read posts where people have had HA rooms for their stays when they didn't need one. I believe the MB Tub is not present in HA rooms? Is this true? Are the rooms that different? How important is it to request a NON HA room? We're taking our first trip home to BCV next May, staying in a 2 Bed dedicated w/2 Queens and I really want the MB Tub. Also, how different is the shower in those rooms? Anything else different?

TIA!!!

There have been some report that requesting a negative, makes that negative more likely. If you really want a request, I'd request the whirlpool tub in the master, and I think the 2 queen dedicated BCV is still a guaranteed category?

In general Disney does their best to reserve the HA rooms for actual HA needs (and I think if you request a different room than assigned at check-in you may be more likely to get an available HA room), but sometimes the HA need is not there. I would not worry much about getting one this trip. You bought DVC for dozens of trips, not this trip alone. The greatest mention on the DIS about getting a HA room is AKV concierge where there are only (5) 2BR lockoffs, of which one is a HA unit with no tub. I am not sure about BCV HA rooms, though.

Usually if you have a 1BR or 2BR at most resorts (AKV jambo would be the exception) the master will have the tub. What is different is it will have a roll-in shower instead of the regular step in one.

When you book a studio where there are combo tub/showers then the HA units will most likely have a roll in shower and no tub. I've heard that some at BLT have both a tub and shower though.

Overall - for the 2BR's the difference you'd see in a full HA unit are lower light switches and counters. The microwave would be on the counter instead of over the stove and some cabinets may be removed in order to accommodate a wheelchair under them. And - the roll-in shower in place of the standard set up. Towel bars will probably be lower and hooks. And the closet will have lower hanger bars.

We had a 1BR HA unit our past stay at BWV and did not find anything inconvenient enough to give it a thought. DH actually liked the roll-in shower b/c it had more room. You do have to be careful about the direction of the water spray though or it may get out on the floor. We just used the towel mats at the edge to catch any that escapes.

You can always put in a request for a non-HA unit.

HA units also have a higher toilet. At least at BWV there is more room to move in the kitchen area so the living room area is slightly smaller.

Most HA studios will not have a tub, but will have a roll-in shower. One, two and three bedroom units (with the rare exception at AKV) will have the jetted tub as well as a roll-in shower.

I'll just add my experience getting a HA unit when I really didn't want one (studios have no tub and I need to soak). I had the list of HA studios memorized (or someone could write down the list of HA 2 BRs). Then when I got the automated call that my room, #***, was ready, I knew it was one of the HA ones. When I went back to the front desk to request a different room, they were OK. And once they found out I hadn't even gone up to the room (when they asked if I'd spent any time in it), they seemed so happy, I thought then that they tried extra hard to help, and they gave me a wonderful studio.

We do the same thing. We look at the room and do not bring our luggage until we make sure it's what we want. We were traveling with our daughter once and she got the HA room, which she kept even though we suggested she try to change. She needed the bathtub for the 2 yo (she had to spray him down instead) and he was potty training and it was hard for him to "stand" in front of the toliet since it was so high. We are careful now when the grandkids are with us to make sure the room is user friendly for all.

Great idea!!! Thanks!

I hadn't thought about the potty. 2 of the kids will be 3 and 4 years of age, so a high toilet would not work for them. Thanks!!!

We had a Lock-Off 2 bed at BCV this Christmas just gone. Both the 1 bed part and studio were HA, these were room Nos: 528 and 530. They were right by the elevators.

Thanks Barry!

Where would I get the list of BCV rooms that are HA?

According to this none of the 2 bedroom dedicated units are HA. Can anyone verify if this is true?

As far as I can see the HA villas are X25, X28 and X30 on each floor. If you request a dedicated 2 bed villa you should avoid these.

:)Most of the time we are traveling with small children and I always request a non-HA room at the time of booking and explain why and so far I've been satisfied. But I will tell you that the one time I didn't request (forgot) they gave us a HA GV at OKW and I immediately went to the manager and requested to be moved. The children could reach the stove top, the thermostats and everything else that you can imagine! We were moved the next day so I learned my lesson.

One thing also that I don't think has been mentioned is there is much less counter space in the master bath. I really do feel that Disney does try and make sure that the HA units are available to those who really need them.
