Trying to decide between the 2 for Fantasmic dining. Been to Brown Derby twice, want to try something new. Any ideas... will have a 2 and a 11 year old. Appreciate the advice!!

Mama Melrose is good, but since you have a 2 year old, you may want to consider H&V. I find it easier as a parent to do a buffet with a little child because your not waiting for your food and your not worrying about what they will eat. At the buffet, you both can have whatever you like! Enjoy!:tink:

we have 5 kids, but last time did the fantasmic dinner an Mama Melrose. It was one of our favorite meals! ! The kids loved the spaghetti & Meatball cupcake! ! And Mom and Dad enjoyed one meal without characters, we thought the food was very good.

Another vote for MMs. Only because we have found H&V to be the worst (bar none) buffet in all of WDW (for dinner):crazy2:. YMMV.

Just did MM two weeks ago. It was quite good as usual. It was our 3rd time there and we always do that for Fantasmic package.

Will never, ever go to H&V again. The Trifecta of Awful. Bad service, bad food and dirty restaurant.

Although the buffet at H&V sounds like a great idea, and rao363 sounds like one of the caring parents that want to know where there young ones are, too many parents let their kids run free at H&V since it is a buffet and no one ever gets lost at Disney. I watched a young man eat Mac & Cheese off of the serving spoon before deciding if he wanted any; witnessed a couple little ones finger through the rolls to get to the one on the bottom, and watched a little girl throw a cupcake at (what I imagine to have been) her brother. I think H&V has good down to earth food, not necessarily at a fair price, but the kids running free drives me to other places!

Sorry; I tend to expect life to unfold according to my rules; like removing your hat indoors (especially when eating) and keeping young ones under the protective arm of their parents or grandparents. It just always surprises me when I see disruptive actions of some being accepted by most of us that wouldn't allow it in our own home. It is my problem and I probably won’t change. Only once have I ever spoken out; I asked the small child sliding on his back under my chair at the Season’s Grill to please go find his parents. I got a dirty little look from Mom, so I learned my lesson.

This is something that I cannot stand. I understand that so many families want their children to be independent at young ages and while that's great - I do think at buffets children should be monitored by an adult. Be it a parent, grandparent or friend.

I get a plate for my children before getting my own. When they are older either my husband or myself will escort them to the buffet and help them when it is needed. That's how both my husband and I were raised and that is how we will continue to raise our kids. It's just a courtesy to other diners.

eeewwww!!! Where are the parents? Eating off the serving spoon?:confused3

I am not big on buffets- actually I skeeve them to be quite honest-, but my husband loves them! I think we will not do H and V, thank you all so much. And really, Disney is for all ages, but people need to still make sure that their children are properly behaved, and some adults as well, lol. Thanks everyone!:thumbsup2

We have done MM for the F! package and H&V for dinner. If your children can not live without the characters and you really aren't into the food aspect then H&V. The food was not gross or disgusting when we were there as I have heard others report but it was just okay.

We liked the food far better at MM. The appetizer, entree and dessert choices just better suited our family.

My thoughts and pictures from MM are here.

Hope this helps some. :)

I know the majority of parents out there are just like HunnyJar, (THANKS) but as with all things, a few can ruin the atmosphere for all. :sad2:
