Any place in the World to get a good gyro? :confused3

I haven't seen any........................

they don't call them Gyros but, at Morrocco at Epcot they have 2 gyro cookers one with chicken and another lamb at the CS restaurant. It is a bit different than Gyros but the food is IMHO excellent. Give it a Try!

I don't know if they are good but there is a kiosk at Pleasure Island that sells them! I can't remember exactly where it is, but I think it is around the corner from Mannequins close to the kiosk where you can get beach buckets.

No gyros, but at the Tangierine Cafe in Morocco at Epcot (counter service) they have "shawarma" sandwiches, which tasted pretty close to a gyros to me. It is shaved meat (lamb or chicken) on a bun with all of the same kinds of toppings.

I am getting hungry just thinking about it... if you like gyros then I would DEFINITELY recommend one of these (they are also really big!!) In my opinion it was like a gyros on a roll instead of a pita.

As others said above, Tangerine Cafe has shawarma in both lamb and chicken. Shawarmas are similar to gyros.. but shawarmas originated in Turkey (obviously, gyros are Greek) and the spices on the meat usually differ from the spices on gyro meat. Also, usually shawarmas are sauced with tahini and gyro's are usually sauced with tzatziki, so there's a bit of flavor difference there.

So while they are similar, there's regional differences to give each its own flavor. I'm a big fan of both shawarma and gyros!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

That's the one thing that's kept me from trying the shawarma at Tangerine.. is the bun any good? I eat shawarma a lot (we have a very good middle eastern restaurant here) and they always serve it on a pita. The bun just seems to "Americanized" for me.. How does it make the over experience?

u can get it wrapped in a Pita also at the tangerine cafe just ask for it i got it last time...ive had it on the bread also and its good that way too

Oh...I didn't know you could request a pita instead of the bun. I will definitely be asking for the pita.

We stayed at Pop in Nov. They had a chicken Mediteranian(sp?) wrap.
It was very similar to a gyro--grilled seasoned chicken on a soft pita, with feta, grilled onions and peppers, and a yummy sour cream, garlic and cucumber sauce. VERY good.

I think the Gyro stand at PI used to be near the bottom of the hill but in Jan '05 it was halfway down on the right. The same gal has been working there for 4 or 5 years now and we've always enjoyed what we got there. It's a great way to finish up a night at PI and soak up all that diet Pepsi we drink there.

It's not really a bun, but rather a middle eastern type bread. It's actually pretty good. You can also get the platter which is enough food to share. The roll comes on the side and it also has tzatziki sauce on it. This is probably our most favorite CS restaurant at WDW.

Diet Pepsi?? Nice try Bill, but I know you - You'll be washing that Gyros down with a cold frosty beer!!!

Thanks for the tip - my wife loves Gyros, and I didn't know about the DD kiosk. We definitely will give it a try in June.

How was your trip?

Hey, Jim, great to hear from you. Our trip was fabulous and I'll be posting a proper trip report shortly. We actually took notes and I'll include links to some pics. If you haven't hit Raglan Road yet, do it! It's like the R&C, 10 times more bar footage, stools and better food. We got there 3 times this month. I'm already planning the '07 trip, probably from 2/28 - 3/11 and I'm revisiting the possibility of buying points to stay at the BW for 7 of those days. Isn't that where you stayed the time we got toghther?

Glad you had a great time - Can't wait to read your trip reports. Our trip in June will definitely include a trip to RR. You're the third person to speak highly of it.

Let me know if you need any help when it's time to look at renting points. We rented on the trip when you and I met. We paid effectively $140/night for a BWV studio. If you can get a standard view room, it would be even cheaper ($110/night), as long as your stay is from Sunday-Thursday. Good deal.
