Is pink still seen as a particuarly girly/gay colour for clothing in the US??

I only ask *** whilst in Epcot last week and wearing a rather fetch (Stop trying to make fetch happen Gretchen) Hot Pink Mickey Tee, I couldn't help but over-hear two rather ghetto looking females remark to each other..

"God, could that guy be any gayer??":confused3

Now I don't think I was particuarly mincing it up at the time, so figured it could only be the shirt?? I have to say after this I was taking note of how many guys I saw in pink, and there wasn't really that many?

Its just that here in the UK, its quite fashionable now to wear pink almost, and it doesn't seem to carry the whole feminine vibe that it used to.

Thoughts??

Hey Pete! How ya' doin'?

Pink works. I've seen any number of men wearing pink, both for leisure and for corporate work. In the corporate workplace I mean. My Da, although never would wear pink, used to wear lavender. For his cohort group, that was pretty signifcant. :teeth:

I think your description of the "ghetto" babes says it all. Yep. There are those sorts throughout this country. Maybe because we are such a large country we have more of that sort, but trust me, they are not the last word on fashion. (Or anything else that matters).

So, as Christian would say, Pink is FIERCE! Wear it and enjoy! ::yes::

Ahhhh, okay.... Thanks!!!

Love your siggy.... Just getting ready to go to PRIDE here in London in fact where Heather Small will be on the main stage performing that track!!!

Here in Canada a lot of men wear pink and I think it looks great! But there will always be be people who say it's a gay/girls color unfortunately. When we went to San Diego last year my 8 yr old son found a pink and brown striped golf shirt that he loved. When he wore it to school he got teased quite badly but told his "friends" he can wear whatever he wants and to mind their own business!:thumbsup2

this isnt relevent but peter from style network says

"im not gay, im brittish"

and in the u.s guys wear pink all the time, mostle a baby pink though not that it really matters, andghetto girls are just like that, you should of said " could they be any ghettoer"

If you look at my thread where I was trying to coordinate outfits for a photo you'll see pink was one of the choices. More of a "berry" for DH, actual pink for DS.

When I was at the mall yesterday there were pink shirts for men EVERYWHERE, in about 50 different shades, only 2 of which were anything close to the shade I needed.

Now whether the men who are buying these shirts are gay or straight I have no clue, but I can definitely tell you we have no shortage of pink shirts.

DH will be wearing a pink shirt (w/ a cream colored linen jacket) to the afternoon wedding we are going to today. Adorable -- yes; Girly -- no.

BTW -- wanna share a silly t-shirt story. Youngest grandson (2.5 yo) had just left SeaWorld and was proudly wearing his brand-new Shamu t-shirt. Marching along, he'd point to his chest (w/ toothy gape-jawed graphic) and proclaim loudly (and astonishingly clearly) to complete strangers: "BITE ME!"

LOL! I got that same shirt for my best friend's son last year! He did the same thing, just saying Bite me! to everyone!

And I don't think the color of a shirt should have anything to do with ones sexuality. I'm a girl and actually don't like the color pink at all.

Can I just say that my DH often wears a dark grey suit with a light pink shirt and a dark pinkish-grayish tie. He looks HOT!

My DD9 y.o just read over my shoulder and said "Why would someone care if another person wore a certain color shirt?" I told her in my best Crush voice "I do not know"

Eh, Pink was cool like 2 years ago. Now it's all about purple! :thumbsup2

It's funny...this guy was walking through my shop in the Studios the other day and I was like WOW that's a funky shirt (it had bright pink and I think lime green and some white). It was quite striking...and in my head I'm like "British, or gay." He was British. :)

Always have fun with the Brits...I love capris or whatever you want to call them. Don't particularly care for H&M's selection this year. But the Brits always have the clothes I want. I refrain from asking for people's clothes when on the clock. ;)

I have a couple of pink shirts in my wardrobe...I usually wear them when traveling either to SF or FL or on a cruise. Or maybe NYC. DC is so reserved, in general. Not that people don't wear whatever, but still...maybe Michelle O can help funk it up.

I wear pink offten - and well!
And with a big smile.

FYI - don't buy it - purple is so "over".

been wearing pink since the early 80's and will continue to wear it, of course it might not always be visible:lmao:

I'm mainly rocking a teal look this Summer anyway!

>Pete.

Just make sure to "own" it .

Funny though - how a little thing like color
can wig some people out.

The truth is you cannot wear pink if you don't want anyone calling you gay. It is a "girly" color in the U.S. You can sometimes accent with pink (say the stripes on your tie), but wearing a pink Mickey T is usually reserved for "girly" or girls.

My two cents.

Wow.

Well it was a Man's Tee, from the Menswear section!!

Although I did see a woman wearing it on a later date!!! Ha!!!!
