Guy Fieri - Diners, Drive Ins and Dives

Can't blame him there. :lmao:

I only remember seeing him hestiate to try something once. I believe it was some kind of soup, was it the restaurant that was in the gas station or something like that, Mexican food maybe? Anyone remember? :rotfl:

I remember he really didn't want to eat menudo (the mexican stew, not the boy band :rolleyes2 ). I think he weezled out of trying it.

Also there was a restaurant once that did all different types of fried gizzards...he didn't want to try it, but he said it was really good once he did.

actually he did try a little bit.

Actually a very busy & very small diner in our neighborhood was featured on the show called the "Dor-stop". That corner is very busy on the weekends now. It is located in the Borough of Dormont right outside the city limits of Pittsburgh, PA

The menudo really freaked Guy out.. which surprized me because he does Mexican food. The other thing he was not thrilled with was Pig Ears that a woman boiled.. YUCK! It was a pig ear sandwich.... they soooo looked slimey! LOL

When Guy was on Food Network Star.. I was not as thrilled with him as I am today. He has grown on me and now my entire family enjoys him.

In fact we took a Triple D tour of Memphis last fall.. No kidding, every restaurant we ate at was on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives! WAY COOL!!:goodvibes I will say they were Dives in a true sense of the word.. .but dannnng the food was good!

Since we live near St. Louis we are planning to go to a few of the places over there next.

I would rather eat scrapple than filet mignon or lobster, and I'm not kidding even a little bit. :thumbsup2

You sound like my DH. We took my dad to a diner earlier this week (he's an out-of-stater) and Jim ordered scrapple. I rolled my eyes, DS-20 groaned. My dad was like, what's scrapple? DH filled him in. I think my dad was looking forward to trying it when the waiter come by to apologize, they were out of scrapple. :rotfl:

Okay, I feel stupid now. I asked a question the other day and Papa Deuce responded. I saw his insignia for Scrapple and it sounded good. I asked him how to make it.

Papa, I just read what it is and you must think I'm crazy to think I could make it. I actually change my mind, I don't think Scrapple sounds good at all :)

Deb

I agree about RR--there has to be something she doesn't like--we probably don't see those meals.

She once said in an interview that if there is something she doesn't like she will talk more about the decor of the place then the food. :thumbsup2

From what I have heard, they share the food they are eating with the production people who are with them, that way they aren't eating everything and it doesn't go to waste.

DH and I love Diners, Drive Ins and Dives.
We've been to a couple of the places featured on the show. When we were in Portland, OR we went to Byways Cafe and a couple of months ago we went to the casinos in CT and on the way there we stopped at Super Duper Weenie. On the way home we had brunch at Valencia's Luncheria.

The show definitely makes you hungry! Once we saw him eating a cheese steak so we took a spur of the moment road trip to Philly and got cheese steaks. Lots of fun and definitely worth it! :)

He's done a few places in my hometown of New Orleans. Trouble is, once a place is featured on the show, they become so popular you can't get in!
He's also been to two places in Palm Beach Co. Flakowitz of Boynton and Havana Hideout in Lake Worth. Havana Hideout looks like fun, but I think all the seating is outside. Not someplace I want to go to in the summertime.

That's bananas! ...and bananas is good.

Our entire family loves this show. He has featured a few places here in the Twin Cities, but we haven't tried any of them yet.

I really like the show but its on all the time. Food Network burns people out. They find a good host and then put them on 62 shows and shove them down your throat all the time ala Emeril, Bobby, RR and Paula.
One other problem is its hard to easily research places he visits. For example your traveling to Texas. You should be able to search where in Texas DDD has been. It would be a great feature on the FN website and very helpful.

BTW, I don't look like him, but I sometimes wear shirts that are similar to his... my wife tells me I like him so much because he is living my dream, and I'm living vicariously through him.

I actually agree to a point. I envy what he does for a living. :)

Thanks for the heads up on Havana Hideout. I just checked out their menu and it looks delish. I'm with you - better to wait to try it when things cool off a bit.

I enjoy him. :thumbsup2

Isn't he the only successful Next Food Network star so far?? I know the first winners (2 guys) have disappeared haven't they? Were there any other winners? :confused3
Party Hearty with the Party Guys (or something like that - the first season winners) re-airs in the middle of the night sometimes. According to Bob Fishman's blog, Amy (third season winner) was asked to come back but lives in Paris now and turned down the offer.

Aaron's "Big Daddy's House" still airs at 1:30 Sunday afternoons - it's in its second season and he's a lot easier to watch, now that he's not so frantic as he was in season 1. And Adam (finalist) has that "Will Work for Food" show; and Kelsey has a show on FN2 - a Food Network offshoot?

But Guy is the most successful of the winners so far :)

I love this show. It's one of my favorites but it always makes me hungry. I like his car too.

Papa Deuce, there is NO way you can get me to eat scrapple....unless its smothered in Chocolate...than...maybe... We actually frequent one of Guy's DDD here in Dania Beach..its called "Grampa's" and thats because their LAST NAME IS GRAMPAS!;) Its been here since 1957 and some of the food is hit or miss...Guy featured the Lamb Shank...which is excellant!:thumbsup2
