I guess being Canadian, I would have NEVER thought that people visiting disney would bring a gun with them for "protection". Have found and read some other posts about bringing in firearms, and wondering what other Canadians think and feel about this???

While we were at WDW in July we happened to catch a story on the local news about a WDW employee that was involved in a legal battle to bring his gun to work. To say I was shocked :scared1: would be an understatement. Apparently, in the state of FL it is legal to carry you guns in the car but WDW has a policy against them being on property. This guy was fighting it and had been told not to bring it to work with him again. The news channel shows him arriving at work and they ask him to open his trunk to which he refuses.

So get this....the guy refuses and still gets to keep his job. Have they never heard of direct insubordination?

Anyone shocked at gun laws in the US should watch Michael Moore's documentary Bowling for Columbine. It's definitely an eye opener.

Ya...it'll scare the pants off you.

Didn't you just love the Charlton Heston bit?

I just don't understand why 1. people can't leave their guns at home; and 2. why would someone even THINK to bring a gun into a theme park???

I guess I just don't buy the "anything can happen anywhere" thing as a reason to care a gun at all times. seems like an accident waiting to happen IMHO. IF something did start to go down at a park, for ex. someone starts shooting, then what would other people do that had their guns on them? start shooting back? sounds like more people would get hurt in the process. (that example was taken from another thread).

really, I just don't get it. and I have to say, knowing that so many people want to bring guns into the park, and carry on them at all times really scares me.

Yes. The American mentality on "the right to bear arms" is really hard to comprehend for us Canadians.

I always say to my husband when we are in the States: "Assume the cars ahead of us, beside us and behind us are packing because there is a very good chance some of them are".

i also believe that Florida has a "shoot first" statute which allows citicens use of deadly force if they "feel threatened"..

like if someone cuts them off on the highway, or shakes their fist at them...

Agreed, after I saw that news story I started to wonder who, around me, had a gun.

Get real though, in FL you can legally carry a gun in the trunk of your car. How on earth are you going to pull that out if you are threatened? I can't even imagine having the ability to point a gun at someone and pull the trigger. That piece of metal is like death and murder in the palm of your hand....:scared:

lol...... sensationalism at it's best. And, it does nothing to legitimize decent journalism.

That's your opinion. I am entitled to mine.

Yup.

IMO, it's over the top BS-Journalism (may even be insulting to call it journalism). It's much too subjective and does little, if anything, to shed objective light on the topic.

If anyone wants to read another side to this story then go to MichaelMoore.com and search: How to Deal with the Lies and the Lying Liars When They Lie about "Bowling for Columbine" by Michael Moore.

LMAO..... BS to counter the BS!

Why should it surprise me?

The posts on the Community Board can get quite heated. For the life of me, I don't understand the reasoning of some people but Disney does have the right to ban firearms on their property so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I wouldn't put too much stock in Michael Moore or the NRA either for that matter. They both have their own agendas.

I wouldnt put any stock into Michael Moore he made canadians look stupid in his documentry LOL He is a wack job!

The whole thing is scary. :sad2: What message are they teaching their children? :guilty:

"Canadians" is spelled with a capital "C".

LOL! And the proper spelling is "whack job".

Where do Canadians look stupid in Moore's documentary? I do believe Moore idolizes Canada and the lifestyle we lead and are privileged to have. Why would he want to make us look stupid?

I agree with declansdad, if you're staying on site and not intending to leave, chances are good you will not have to worry about encountering any vehicle or any person bearing arms.

Agreed. I don't (wouldn't) support either one of them for various reasons.

What bothers me the most is the over-the-top "journalism" tactics used by some of these people, Michael Moore being one of the worst, IMO.
