Gum Popping and other annoying habits

You know how people have these little habits that get you down?
Like Bernie.
Bernie like to chew gum.
No, not chew. POP.
Well, I came home this one day
And I am really irritated, and
looking for a little sympathy
and there's Bernie layin'
on the couch, drinkin' a beer
and chewin'. No, not chewin'.
Poppin'. So, I said to him,
I said, "Bernie, you pop that
gum one more time..."
and he did.
So I took the shotgun off the wall
and I fired two warning shots...
...into his head.

He had it coming. He had it coming. He had it coming all along!

One of men in my office sucks his teeth after eating. Not to bad when he is sitting in another office. Not only that he thinks nothing of talking to someone on the phone while he is eating. I dread when he goes out to lunch and comes back. I get to listen to at least an hour of him sucking his teeth.

There is young lady who sits beside me who cracks sunflower seeds all day (sounds just like gum cracking) and talks on the phone 8.5 hours out of a 9 hour day oh and its all personal phone calls. She has tons of drama!

It's not so much the gum popping that I hate, it's the gum SMACKING that drives me up the wall. The other things on my annoying list are the whistlers and folks that must YELL while speaking on their cell phones. I must have had a really bad week (I've was on jury duty impaneled on a murder case) since all of these things are annoying me right now simply by thinking about them!

Have you had a blood test lately........you could have anemia I used to do this (when I was anemic) it's called 'pica'.
Just wondering, I wish someone had told me.......... :rolleyes2

Pica is the condition of eating non-food items, such as hair and dirt, for example. I don't know if chewing ice would be considered pica.

Pica is actually considered an eating disorder. It basically means eating anything that doesn't have any nutritional vaule.

I can't stand whistling. DS likes to whistle and I always ask him to stop - it makes me crazy!

Whistling drives me insane, too!!! I had a roommate in college who would whistle her little head off every time she was mad at us - she'd whistle the day away like she didn't have a care in the world and it grated on my every last nerve! :furious: LOL! Dh will whistle once in a while and look at me just to get a reaction bcuz he knew how nuts it made me when she did it. :stir: ;) :rotfl:

All (most) Japanese men do this teeth sucking thing- drove me nuts when we lived there.

I also hate men who jingle their change in their pockets.

Pagophagia - the compulsive eating of ice that is a common symptom of a lack of iron. My sister in law ate excessive ice each time she was pregnant due to low iron.

There is a woman who sits behind me at church (I tend to sit in the same pew every Sunday). Anyway she chews her gum like a COW!! It sounds horrible! It drives my DH crazy. I may have to change pews.

OMG! I hate this gum thing! It drives me CRAZY!!

Sorry it took me so long to respond back to this thread. I am severely anemic, so anemic they called me malnourished.

I cannot function without my ice.

I've heard of Pica, I can't believe people eat dirt, clay, feces and what not. SIck!

A co-worker slurps. Everything and anything liquid. Coffee, soda, water, soup. Everything. I've started getting up from my desk when I see him come back with a beverage.

He also talks on the phone loud enough for the entire downstairs office to hear him (and we're upstairs!).

So annoying. Today I actually shushed him when he was on the phone. Didn't help. (ya, I shouldn't have but my nerves are GONE).

Now THAT makes more sense to me than pica.

Come in early and leave a toothbrush on his desk. :rotfl2:

I have two coworkers in my office who chomp/crunch on ice ALL DAY LONG. Most times it drives me insane. Mind you, I'm in an area where it is fairly quiet all day because we are reviewing patient charts so these sounds are loud and distracting. One of them is worse than the other if that's possible. She not only chomps her ice (with her mouth open most of the time) she SLURPS the water from the cup. She can't drink it --- noooooo --- she slurps it. She also slurps soups or any liquid food or beverage. Grr! She also has this weird thing with chips. Each chip she pops it into her mouth and takes three quick open-mouthed chomps. ? Thank goodness for headphones and Internet radio! :)

Another coworker sucks her teeth after she eats. Luckily she doesn't eat lunch with us often. She did yesterday though and sucked her teeth about every 4th word that came out of her mouth.

I agree with the annoying gum popping. If its every once in awhile it is ok, but when it continues non stop for an hr it drives me crazy. Many years ago when I worked fulltime when I was single, we worked in cubicles(did I spell that right?). Anyways, a girl who sat on the otherside of my cubicle used to do the popping thing, almost all day most days. I could not stand it. So to get her back, I would wait until she had just walked away from her desk(In this office you can hear everything)and then I would ring her phone. As soon as she would sit down and answer the phone, of course the phone would stop ringing. I did this a couple of times a day. It was my way of getting her back. If I had to be annoyed, so did she. :teeth:

And my sister is one of those loud talkers. If we are ever in a car together, oh my, I about have to plug my ears. She called me at work yesterday and everyone in the room could hear her. I finally told her to QUIT SCREAMING. :)

It is definately classified as a "pica" - see the list on emedicine - http://www.emedicine.com/ped/topic1798.htm

Lauri used to despise ice and would order drinks without ice because she hated it so much. Then about 2 yrs ago, after 36 years of ice hate, she can't eat enough of it and it's due to the medicines she is taking screwing with her iron levels. She's been told by all of her doctors that this is a "pica"
