How do I go about getting a good guide?

We took the tour two years ago, but the guide was soooo pushy and vague on answers that we walked away. It was too frustrating. We are going in the end on august and would like to get some updated information... how do I go about getting a guide that knows their stuff and is going to help me the most, etc? I am very nervous about getting another bad guide.

Also, this just popped into my head... where can I find out the new after 8/15 family and friends referral incentives?:confused3 Are they out there yet?

Hmm if you already took a tour, then I believe that the guide that you had then is probably your assigned guide.

I guess that if you wanted a different guide for a tour, then I would go to one of the kiosks and request a tour and then see if they will note that you would like a different guide. Sorry but I don't know if this will work. :confused3

You can ALWAYS request a new guide. We went for a second tour & got a new guide - since our first one was very pushy as well.

Our second guide is Steven Fischer & we really liked him. No pressure at all. Feel free to request him. GOOD LUCK! :thumbsup2

My guide is Maribella Quiones and she's great!

Our guide is Jenna Mazza and we LOVE her. Not pushy at all. She answered all our questions and was very relaxed and wanted to make sure it was the right time for us to buy. We were on the fence, not planning on buying in July when we were down there, but we did! I credit it to Jenna. Had she been pushy, there is no way we would have bought.

I would definitely request a new guide!

Yeah I was concerned about the same thing. When I first started my research I had called to get the information packet and some general information so the receptionist took some info and passed me along. The person I got was OK but definitely felt the sales pitch coming through. My main goal at the early stages was just to get the info packet and some general info I could not find answers.
I had since decided to look into resale contracts for better value when they called me back to inquire if we made any decision. I have no problem with follow up but it was the turn the call took after I mentioned resale that I was concerned with. They seemed annoyed and even after knowing my preferences began to push VGC on me which was on the other coast... It just got a little too pushy for me almost like they were also trying to scare me away from resales. I looked them up in Linked In and based on the resume was a new hire.

My concern now is that if I do buy a resale contract that I would be stuck with this person and unable to change to someone else who may have more experience (since if they've been there for a while it's clear they like doing it and would also likely be more knowlegable).

Really, the only interaction one normally has with their guide after a sale is completed would be for add-ons. It isn't like you use guides for reservations, or paying your dues.

If, after you buy resale, you decide to do an add-on contract through Disney, you can call the general sales number and ask for a supervisor, who can assign you to a new guide.

I did not know that. Thanks. I thought they were your contact for all things DVC.

Just is case it isn't clear - guides are timeshare salesmen. Getting people to buy timeshares from Disney is their one and only job. It's what they get paid to do.

There is a thread here that gives a list of guide names. You may want to browse through and see if you can find a guide who everyone raves about.

As toniosmom said, you can look at the "who is your guide" post and find those that have many assigned to them. You can also ask some who have these guides for recommendations or questions you may have. There are many positive recommendations listed in the posts on that thread as well. Then, when you find the guide you want, call the sales dept. and see what they can do...then, go back on the above thread and let me know so i can add you to the list :thumbsup2

How long does it normally take your guide to return a phone call? We took a tour in June & decided DVC was for us; however, we decided we would wait until later in the year for my wife to find permanent employment. That has happened & my wife called our guide about 5 days ago & left a message. We have yet to receive a call back. Is that normal, or should I inquire about getting a new guide to work with?

Your guide could be on vacation or doing presentations on the cruise ships, as they take turns.

I am assuming that DVC is licensed to sell directly in Delaware...there are some states that DVC can not have any sales contact with residents. Those residents have to buy in person.

But there is also the possibility that you simply should look for a new guide. I'd call the general sales number and be sure they are allowed to sell in Delaware, and if so, ask if your guide is away. Then maybe try leaving one more message before switching guides.

Thansk! I didn't even think about calling the sales number to ask if she was out.

My wife and I took a tour about 3 years ago and didn't buy. However Jim was great. He wasn't pushy and was always patient when I would call and ask a question.

We eventually bought over a year later.

I was just going to post Jim McCoy too. Jim is very patient. We took our sweet time deciding on buying DVC & he was never pushy. He returned our phone calls quickly, answered all our questions (sometimes more than once) and allowed us to take our time. I realize he is a saleman, but he never seemed it. He told us to price it out, compare our past WDW vacation hotel costs, think about how often we visit WDW, he was really helpful. Good sense of humor too!

You can request any guide you want to i just love our member guide her name is marlene levin not pushy very sweet bends over backwards to help with anything try her you wont be sorry

Anyone ever dealt with Don Deal? We scheduled a tour time with him for next month when we are there. I have called and left messages twice with him and he hasn't returned my calls so we aren't off to a good start.
