If you buy a resale contract, what is your guides role? Certainly not the same, if you would have bought from them. Any experiences out there?
Thanks,
Chris

Guides will always have the same role - they are basically a sales representative for DVC. They are not MS and have no special ability to convey concerns for members - although some are willing to do so at times.

If you purchased a resale, your guide would still be the one to contact if you want an add-on. If you purchased direct, your guide would still be the one to contact if you want an add-on. They are there to facilitate any purchase of points directly thru DVC.

Some guides take the time to contact their members (usually by voice-mail) while they are at WDW and members will receive DVC information by email and snail mail with their guides name on it (as a reminder), but guides are not really likely to personally contact individual members directly on a regular basis unless first contact has already been made by the member about a purchase.

We have purchased one contract directly and three by resale and have always had the same good experience with our guide over the years. We have not purchased any points for 8 years now and he is still happy to talk with us whenever we stop in at the sales center.

I was under the impression that they were more than salesmen...that explains why my guide was not very nice or helpful on a recent question. Wich I am a little disheartened about...I guess that is what happens when you buy resale!

It may just be the personality of your guide.......in fact, we may have the same guide, since mine is just like that even though I bought 3X through him!:rotfl:

I agree with DVC Grammy...the reaction depends on the Guide. I have bought contracts both through Disney and resale, and my guide was professional with both transactions though he played very little part in the resale.

I have since then been assigned a new Guide and she doesn't care where my old contracts came from...she is only interested in selling new ones.

Threads about Guides inevitably remind me of Richyams, who refused to call them Guides and was less than kind in his remarks about their tactics of less than full disclosure ("you can book anywhere at any time if you buy XXX resort", "dues will rise only at very low rates and even go down sometimes" etc). I don't think he had a very strong relationship with his Guide. ;)

My guide just sent me a pre-trip email and it just said basically: 'We're looking forward to welcoming you home'... Listed some perks... Talked about dining reservations, yada, yada
It was signed by my guide but probably was an auto-email triggered by my reservation date. I still thought it was nice.

I didn't by resale- but I think your guide has the same role after purchase resale or not.

My (first) guide was young, charismatic, and very talkative. My husband joked that he reminded him of a used car salesman, but I LOVED him! That guide (Tony) and I spoke the same language...DISNEY(with a passion). When he was promoted, I was temporarily assigned "Tinkerbell", according to the DVC e-newsletter. I never spoke to Tink, but I sure would have liked to! When I couln't reach Tink, Member Services informed me my new guide was Marshall. He's older(maybe wiser?) and does not talk near as fast as Tony did, but he handled my last add-on just fine. He's never really extended an invitation for me to "just stop by and see him" like Tony always did, but I never found the time to visit Tony, so I doubt I will have time to visit Marshall. I recently purchased a resale contract, and am not sure if Marshall will be my guide for this contract. I thought I might call member services and request that he be, but on second thought, I'll just tempt fate and see what happens. As far as helpfulness goes, Tony told me once that I was getting information from this board as fast as he was getting it from Disney, so I just come here and ask all my questions before I even call my guide. All I need the guide to do is tell me what is available in my UY, and send out the paperwork. It seems to vary from guide to guide whether you get more than that!

You will have the same guide regardless how or where you purchased your contracts - unless you call and request a change of guides. You will not have a different guide for each contract.

I bought in 1999 and only had my guide call me once, when the additional points went on the market for BWV a few years ago (when they closed down the sales center).

We bought resale. Before our purchase I had called DVC and talked to a sales rep who sent me some info. She called a couple times to follow up but never caught us at home so we never spoke to her again. After our purchase, we found that she was assigned to us as our guide. We have had no contact with her other than the 10 minute conversation back when we were first inquiring.

Thanks, Doc, for the information! You saved me a phone call to Member Services! I don't need no stinkin' guide...the folks here know more!

My sales person (AKA guide) is always happy to hear from me, but he doesn't waste his (or my) time with frivolous communications. And that's the way I prefer it!

Your "Guide" exists to sell you product. If you never have a need for more product, you'll have no need of whoever is assigned as your guide. If you find you want to purchase something from Disney, the guide is there to assist.

I got a surprise phonecall from my guide once. We were staying at OKW (which we purchased by resale) and my guide called and left a message that our VWL add-on (purchased direct from Disney) was recorded by the county.

I had emailed some questions to DVC last year, nothing important. They e-mailed back and said they couldn't help via e-mail and that they would call me. I wrote back and told them no thank you since we are rarely home and when we are we are usually busy with kids that we don't answer the phone. Needless to say they called anyway, a lot. When they finally called the house after 8pm (when the kids were in bed already), I politely emailed them again and told them my questions had been answered via disboards;) and to please stop calling.

Does that mean that same person calling my house will now be my guide?
