We have some friends who are staying at the DLR the same time we are there. Is there a way that we can be their guest and swim at the pool one day? Is this allowed? Do we just need to be with them as they enter the pool area?

Technically it is not allowed. The pool area is for registered guests only. Not registered guests and whoever they want to let in.

There have been reports of non-hotel guests being able to rent a cabana for a day (or half day) so that might be worth looking into but there is a fee associated with that option.

Your friends could just add you to their reservation, and have room keys issued for you
The room occupancy limit (generally 5) applies and you would also have access to their room :goodvibes

Considering the price associated with staying at the DLH, I would expect access to the pool area should be restricted heavily to registered guests only. I know, if I were staying there, I'd seriously frown upon anyone inviting their friends to join them at the pool if they were not registered at the hotel.

Now, as someone else mentioned, if your friends are less than 5 in number and want to add you to their reservation to obtain keys for you to use during their stay, that is another thing entirely...

Yes, as has been said, it's not allowed. There have been reports of people staying at other DLR hotels abd booking a cabana at the DLH pool, but other than that, the pool area is for registered hotel guests only.

Thanks everyone. I kinda figured it would be too easy to be true. If we were added to the reservation, would that work for just one holding the room key, or would it be for one plus kids?

ETA: They are a party of four, I have 5 swimming kids plus me or dh. Would it only work for the adult listed on the res?

No, only those listed on the reservation. When they see a party that size, they ask for everyone's keys. It really isn't fair to the people paying to stay there. Frequently, the area is very crowded.

While I consider myself quite a "rule follower", my initial reaction is along the lines of, "Why worry? Enjoy time with your friends." But in this case I think the fact that your fabulous family is larger than the family actually staying at the hotel makes it a bit too much.

If it were me, I might call the hotel and say, "My family is considering staying at the DLH in _________. Would it be possible to have friends join us for a swim while we're there? Is there a guest pass or something we could get?

This allows you to get the answer as if you were the person with the reservation, but doesn't put a burden on your friend to make the call.

I suspect others are correct and they'll say "no", but there's nothing wrong with a respectful question...

Actually, when you call DLH reservations, their first question is always your name. If you say you have a reservation, they will want to check that and confirm that your reservation is all correct.

No, it won't work for just the adult. And honestly, with there being more of you than the actual reservation, it is extremely unlikely they will allow it.

From a moral perspective, I would never consider doing this. Its similar to stealing services IMHO.

I was wondering about this, though we have a slightly different situation. We are a family of 5 staying at GC. We also have friends who live in the DL area. One night, my DH and 2 DS's are joining the other dad and his son for a baseball game. That leaves DD and me at the hotel and we were going to get together with the other mom and her DD.

I was thinking about asking when we check in if our friends might be able to swim with DD and me for that one evening. If they say no, we'll find something else to do that night - no big deal.

Agreed. Having worked as a pool attendant in the past, it was one of the most dreaded parts of my job (kicking people out). People always assumed it was fine and would have birthday parties by the pool. Also, when I've paid thousands of dollars to have a privilege, I find it frustrating when others take it for free.

That being said ,I have a similar situation, and this is how I resolved it: My cousin lives in the area and will be coming up to join me for a night (I'm staying at GCH). I called and checked the policy and they said I had to register her, so i did. In my case though, I am the only person in the room for the full stay so I was under the Max room occupancy. In that case though, she will actually be staying in my room. I have other family in the area who want to see me, and I am going to suggest we do something else, like dinner.

:thumbsup2 Now with 10 people :teacher: on the reservation in the 3 bedroom grand villa @ VGC this CAN BE accomplished!!! :flower3::grouphug:

No, only those listed on the reservation. When they see a party that size, they ask for everyone's keys.

Well this is very good to know. We are a party of 9 and while everyone is listed correctly on the reservations, the control freak that I am does not usually let anyone else bring a room key, they can't be trusted because they lose everything --- thanks for the info so now we will be prepared!!! :beach:

Just to add, that with the regular hotel rooms, there is a charge per person to add a 3rd (or 4th) adult to the room reservation.

At WDW, it depends on the hotel, with deluxes being more than values. I assume it is similar at DL. The DVC rooms, like VGC are a bit different, they can hold more people, but still have a limit.

I've never had them change the rate because I had more than 2 people at the DLH, GCH, or PPH...
