Guy at the auto repair shop making small talk asks "You all ready for Thanksgiving?" I thought for a second and replied "Yeah, I don't do anything." "Dishes" he asks? Ok sure I'll do dishes, set the table, be sure beverages are served, etc. Then I remembered...I'll put the leaf in the dining room table! Yes! That will be a big contribution to the meal on my part!:rolleyes1

We do have a formal dining room with a table that gets used 3 times per year: Easter/Thanksgiving/Christmas. On each of the three occasions I will retrieve the table leaf from...(drum roll) (or any other kind of dinner roll) UNDER THE COUCH in the living room.

So in the proud tradition of Dis holiday threads: Where do you store your leaf? :teeth:

I don’t have a formal dining table but my mom keeps theirs under their bed.

In the coat closet in the foyer which is next to the dining room. I have two leafs for the table and those suckers are heavy so the shorter the distance the better.

The leaf for our kitchen table & the leaf for our dining room table stay in both tables year-round

However, we have a pretty decently heavy table & 6 chairs that stay in our basement playroom. For Thanksgiving, that table & the 6 chairs go into our living room for the kids' table. And, in order to get the table & chairs into our living room, they have to come up the basement stairs, around a corner, up 2 more stairs from the family room, & around 2 more corners before finally making it into the living room.

My dining room table is...8'x4' and doesn't have a leaf which is a blessing and headache within it's self. When I bought it at an antique shop they claimed it was a conference table from an American embassy in Africa; I believe the conference table part, LOL.
This is it set up for a New Year's Eve dinner party:

I might need to sell it in order to better fit into our new empty nester apartment and it's making me a tad sad.

Mine are behind the china cabinet, nice and close. Thanksgiving is long past, but for Christmas I have my BIL's get the second folding banquet table out from behind the living room sofa. We will quite often have 20+ people for dinner so we serve it buffet style. The kitchen table is where the food is set out, dining room and living room have 2 large tables with chairs. People mingle and and we have both sides of our family plus my sister's in laws as they have no other family in Canada. Her friend is in the same boat and also invited. I would rather be less formal and have more people than to know someone in our circle of family or friends is alone.

We only have our kitchen table, it has two leafs. We keep one in year round (really silly for the number of people, but it keeps me from bumping my knees LOL). The other stores inside the table (they both would if they weren't in the table).

In the garage. Just have a one-car garage that we don't use for parking the car unless there's a hurricane or hail storm. So it's kept pretty clean.

It was under the guest room bed

(we don't have a dining table anymore but did for years)

My parents' leaves are stored in fleece bags. When I was little I asked my dad what the bags were. He said they were sleeping bags for dwarfs. I of course pictured 2 of the 7 dwarfs sleeping in my house! :flower1:

To answer the op's question, in a closet.

When I was a kid we had a formal dining room with a table you could seat 20+ at when the 2 leaves were installed. They were the heaviest thing I ever lifted as a kid. One was behind the sideboard & one behind the china hutch.

Now none, yeah. We never entertain here anymore. I prefer hitting a good restaurant. The holidays are now all at one of our kids homes.

We have a narrow closet beside the fridge that has two leaves in it. We rarely use them and there's not a lot of room in the kitchen when you have them in. When we have a big gathering, it is usually for the girls birthday in mid-September and we party in the garage. Out there we have our old dining table and we put the leaves in it, pull in the picnic table, and a couple of card tables!
