Hey,

Okay I have never had to do this the hard way, but it looks like I have lost all my ins and I need to write an email to guest services to complain that 499 days is 499 days and they should have availablity and be prepared. I have been calling since June to get Thanksgiving week of 2009 since I missed it this year and everytime I call I am told I have to wait till 499 days out. I was also told that I may have to peice my FW campsite stay together by calling exery day to add onto my stay. Okay whatever it takes....
The problem is though... after many calls today is now 499 days out from Wed, Nov 25th,2009 and according to CRO the campsites have not been loaded for November and have only been loaded in their system for Oct 2009 so far according to Stella the Supervisor. WHAT??? She couldn't even tell me when they would load them. WHAT??? Ugh!!!

Now anyone that stays at Disney's FW during a major holiday knows that getting a specific type of camp site that you need is like winning the lottery as it is and now it seems they are making it even harder by not even following their own policies. Geeze, I am tired of calling everyday and now it seems I get to call twice a day cause' if they finally decide to load them in the afternoon and I only called in the morning I'd still miss it.

Okay...ranting is over. Email address anyone? Thanks!

I feel your pain. How and when campsites become available seems to be a big mystery.....they often do NOT follow the 499 days out rule. I'm sure it's their way of keeping us obsessive over planners from booking things up way in advance. Sorry---I don't have the email. I'm curious now though....has anyone EVER been able to book a campsite at the 499 day?

I talked to the new manager of Fort Wilderness a couple of days ago and he specifically mentioned that they are going to work on the assigning process along with some other modifications (which were not mentioned)

I know he can't help you with the reservation system, but I hope this eases your mind just a little. I had a grand gathering problem that we discussed at length and he seemed very eager to fix problems and address things that are lacking at FW with site assignments.

Well so far I emailed my frustration to the web address provided by 2 goofycampers- thank you. And, I called back to CRO and got an agent that was willing to try a few things for me. I was not at all happy that the supervisor Stella I talked with earlier today told me "nothing was available to book in November" even when I had asked her what could I book in November. I honestly had a hard time believeing her.

So, I called back and had a CM look to see when a reservation could be made in October and asked them then to book a premiuim site for 30 days. We started with Oct 31st and worked our way forward until we figured out that we could book a site for Ot 19th for 30 days which puts me out of a Premium site on Nov.18th. If I remember correctly 30 days is the max that can be booked on one reservation number. So, my plan now is to call everyday and see if I can now modify my reservation to coming in one day later for 30 days til I can get that Thanksgiving week. I hate trying to cheat the system (if this even works), but I feel like I am backed into a corner here. I tried booking in December 2007 for Thanksgiving 2008 and it was already sold out, so I know I hard this week I need is to get. If anyone else has some ideas for me to try I am listening.

Thanks for everyones help and support....

Just a suggestion here.... This website IS sponsored by a Travel Agency. Why not just send Rhonda a PM & ask her to go to work for you? You might get the ressie you want, and Rhonda might get a commission - if they pay her a commission. Win-Win!:woohoo:

I second that suggestion!:thumbsup2 I have booked with Rhonda ever since it was recommended to me by someone on these boards. She works her head off to try to get you what you want. Why not try to have someone work with you?
Good luck!:goodvibes

Another thing to think about is that the 499 day clock is from your check out date, not the check in date.

Well my DW called this afternoon to also try and make Thanksgiving 2009 resies since we were also told earlier that today we could make them. She was told that they were all booked up this morning, after the person at CRO called guest services to see why he could not get the ressie he was told they were all taken this morning. I it's a bunch of BS there is no way they booked that entire campground in a few hour.:sad2:

You don't thank that there are 800 families in the US that want to camp Thanksgiving 2009. We just got off the phone with them all is booked.

I really don't think the campground releases all of their sites at the 499 day. Just keep trying. You'll probably get what you want. Heck, you're over a year out right now.

I agree and hope this is the case,

Last Update! I did it and so can you!
Well, I worked the system and though I didn't get a premium site like really wanted, I was however able to get a preferred site. Something is better than nothing. This right here tells you that all the sites were not booked up same day. I knew that was a bunch of bull. What it takes to get a popular holiday time period from my experince is...money to call all the time long distance, a CM that is willing to try anything to get you what you need (this one is really the key), patience and lots of persistance. I called this morning and was able to book all the way to 11/28/09, so now I just need to call tomorrow morning and finish my stay with that last night the 28th. Why I was able to book two nights at a time this time when I had called yesterday and was told I could only get one night at a time is beyond me, but at least I finally got something. I now have a preferred site from 11/11-11/28 with only one more night to go! Wahoo!
I'll probably modify my stay down to just what I need later. I'll post it here when I do, so if any of ya'll need dates that I have you'll have a better chance of getting them. Disney is crazy, I just don't understand why they have to make this stuff so hard.
PS
No comment from the peanut gallery yet from the email I sent to guest services.

In the DVC world this is called "walking your reservation". Its allowed over there. :confused3 Glad you got your site!!:thumbsup2

OK, not to sound negative but why bother - why all the trouble.

Like I said, 500 days from your check out date and you can book it all at once.

If you need to figure your 500 day, use this date calculator to subtract 500 from your chjeck out date.

Because' by then it will be booked up for that week. Trust me...I couldn't get my dates for this year. Folks go for weeks to months at a time for that holiday period, so it's harder to grab a couple of nights. And, like Christmas week alot of people have time off from work, I know I get two freebie days. It's a popular time to go and it's all decorated for the holidays too. :)

Ugh! It's now been two days of trying to get my last night- the 28th. This is so stressful. :(
