Anybody else ready?

Dh and I are both half Jewish, and we put out our manorah, but thats it. We do have a boxing Rabi as our tree topper though! LOL

No prob. It didn't fit in my profile correctly. I'll have to work with it.

We're ready. We have very good friends, very good, Jewish family, probably our closest friends. Each year, some time in December, we do a Honamas dinner. :cool1: Not sure when it will be, but we always do one. And I bought our Hanukkah card for them.

Sounds great Papa. Hope you enjoy. Hanukkah is Dec12th-19th this year. And our landlord surprised us last year and got us a Hanukkah card, it was awesome.

DD's kindergarten teacher asked me if I can come in to talk about Hanukkah since I did that when my 4th grader was in kindergarten. I picked up a bag of 100 dreidels so the kids can pick the color they want. There are only 16 kids but I told the teacher since it is cheap that she can let the other two kindergarten teachers have them for their classes as well. I will also bring in my menorah and read the kids a Hanukkah story. I need to ask if she wants me to do a craft.

I give the girls a gift every night because dh and I were both raised that way but they aren't necessarily big gifts every night. They are getting gifts ranging from a $1.00 calendar to a $40 300ct polar fleece jacket for ice skating. I guess I should check to make sure I have 8 items since I buy at sales thru out the year. I do have a Snow White DVD and Liberty kids dvd but a broken dvd player so those might be given on a cold winter snow day.

Hanukkah starts Friday night December 11th this year as my kids keep reminding me. It also happens to be my birthday so maybe I will get a gift the first night as well.

I'll be in Disney for the first few nights of Chanukah ( and I'm missing a Sam Glasser concert) but I'll be decorating my window and celebrating!

I'm borrowing your menorah too, since my Chanukah smilies apparently didn't come out. :(.

We used to give D a present a day - 1 big one and 7 small ones (kinda like Snow White, no? :rotfl:). But now that she's in college (and not home for most of it :sad1:) we just do one big gift when she gets home.

Oh, and lots of latkes!

Yay for Hanukkah. :) Last year I made my own latkas for the first time. I'm excited for this year because now I have a boyfriend who is also Jewish.

As a kid, my sister and I would take turns lighting the menorah. We got one gift a night- usually a few small things, a few medium things, and one big thing. It was fun to see the pile of presents and get to choose one to open each night.

I come from a multi religious family, Catholic mother and non practicing Jewish father. My mother made efforts to honour my father’s side of the family and always made sure that Passover and Chanukah were celebrated in one way or another. As I grew up and became agnostic I stopped celebrating any kind of religious holiday. Once my partner and I decided to adopt (she’s a non practicing Catholic) the one thing we knew for sure was that we wanted our son to embrace the spirituality of our different religions. We felt that we would be depriving him of experiences that would only enrich his life. Our son was born on Dec 7th and came into our lives on Dec 9th, so this year Chanukah will be celebrated at our home for the first time in many years. And we’re all looking forward to it!

My DD, almost 6, was born on the first day of Hanukkah almost 6 years ago. My daughter has heard me tell the story thru the years and for the past couple of years, on the first day of Hanukkah, she insists its her birthday! I try to explain its on a different day each year, and that her birthday is on the 19th, but she doesnt understand that and gets very upset that we are not celebrating her birthday on the 1st day!

it is her birthday on the Jewish calander.. DS is born first day of Passover.. same thing.. at school it is April 1st but we celebrate first day of passover.. he gets a flourless chocolate cake yummy

My son was also born on the first day of Hanukkah (25 Kislev) and as far as my DH is concerned...that's his REAL birthday! ;) When my son gets older I'll let him decide how he wants to celebrate his birthday. Right now we do it by the Gregorian calendar...Dec 4th. I think as he gets older we'll have a second celebration, just he, daddy, and I on the 25th of Kislev.

Yup, I am ready...with the help of Amazon this past week :lmao:.

DD13 got 2 big items, DS8 is getting 1 big, 1 medium, and then there are some Wii games, DVD's, CD's to round things out. No toys this year..no small parts :worship::worship:. Well they will get their Hess trucks from their grandparents.

Their grandparents are taking them on a cruise for a week too, so does that count as a present for me and DH??? :rotfl2:

Our eldest (adult), well both adult DS's never usually want anything, so unless I see something that I know he will love (last year I got him a framed picture of the old Shea Stadium..he loved it), I don't usally get him anything. Our other DS is getting a shipment this upcoming week from Amazon for both his birthday and Chanukah that he is gonna love.

So, I am done...well I do have a few more movies that are coming out that I want to get. THis time of year all DVD's go to Chanukah gifts.

Last year my son was NOT very happy that they didn't get Hanukkah off from school........ It wasn't fair, Everyone gets Christmas off........ etc etc

I said, "But Jack, we aren't Jewish."

He came back with, "Well I MIGHT BE!"

Happy Hanukkah Everyone!
