Guess what my MIL bought DH for Christmas

I nearly passed out when she told me. She bought him a Redskins Mailbox. Yep, a Redskins mailbox to go in front of our new home! He'll be thrilled, I'll be humiliated. I could have just died when she told me. She said "DH said you wouldn't mind." Then I thought back. Way back to last summer. Yep, I said "Yep, I don't care if you get one, but we ain't paying a couple hundred bucks for it. If a free one falls in your lap, it's all yous!" How was I to know he'd ask his mother to get him one for Chrsitmas??? Because I love him & only because I love him will I endure the Redskins mailbox. This will surely impress our new neighbors! Maybe we'll just keep it up for a year.

It sure is. We're originally from Maryland, don't think our new neighbors will understand that though!

Yeah, I hear about all sorts of disasters that befall mailboxes.

There was the time when my husband put our DD2 in his truck. It was really tall, and I had other things in my hands to put in at the same time, and DD decided to move that gearshift thingy to the reverse position.

The mailbox bit the pavement before we could get in to stop it. Funny thing was that we were headed to my mom's house to plant a new mailbox after some teens took after the old one with a bat.

I give the mailbox 6 months. After that, you can go and get one of those classy wrought iron mailboxes with all the curly Qs on it.

My DH and I run an online sportsfan merchandise store and we carry those mailboxes, which I think are atrocious! However, its amazing how many of them are sold every day! I'm with ya about being embarassed about it being out front of my house. Ah, the joys of inlaw presents - I was getting out the decorations the other day and found this hideous santa doll (about 2 feet tall) dressed like the Gorton's fisherman that they had given us last year!

Now that's a good idea. You could say you want to keep it inside so as not to expose it to the elements and let it get ruined!

Maybe your new home and the new mailbox are color coordinated and it will blend in?

But then what would your new home look like? If it matches the mailbox that is?
