If you're able - one thing I love to do is resort hop. They genuinely don't mind if you hang around even if you're not staying there. It's a fun way to get to know the rest of the resort. That would be a great idea, but I'm not sure where we'd be able to stay indoors for the afternoon. Our hotel in Orlando proper, about an hour each way from Disney. None of the Disney hotels do day rates. There's always multiple showings of Hall of Presidents I suppose...
There's a segment of folks who legitimately will work while at WDW. I've worked at the lounge in Yacht Club before, and it was great. Contemporary has some quiet spots (with big sofas) on the second floor (where some of the meeting halls are). Some folks talk up the second floor of Wilderness Lodge and Voyageur's Lounge at Riviera.
Even if you're not working - there's a lot of shopping (etc) at the bigger resorts. You could easily spend an afternoon hopping the MK resorts - start at Contemporary and move to the next via the monorail. Stay as long at each as you'd like.
(We also used to sometimes hit a movie at Disney Springs during the peak summer afternoon.)
