We will be in Orlando for other reasons and are thinking of doing a quick side trip to EPCOT, just to ride Guardians. There's nothing else in the park that really appeals to us, and it's too late to get good dinner reservations. Our plan is to buy an individual lightning lane and then go stand by. Is there a better strategy? We'd basically be in the park for 4 hours after work, and want to ride as many times as possible.

Guardians doesn’t have a standby line. Virtual queue and paid LL only. You can get a virtual queue spot at 7am.
Can I get more than 1 virtual queue in a day? or set up a VQ at 7am for 6pm return time?

No just 1 VQ per attraction and you might not get a VQ it is based on your speed of submission at 7 AM. You don't get to pick the return time. For your new LLSP that has replaced ILL you can pick your specific time but again only 1 ILL per attraction.

Do you have APs?

ETA: add VQ info is not guaranteed you are completing for a VQ.

Alas no AP. So it sounds like the best we'll be able to do is two rides? 🤔

Then you are looking at a very high price for 2 rides on GotG. Epcot no longer offers an after 4 PM ticket so you also need to include at least a $109 Epcot ticket per person depending on season plus your LLSP purchases for GotG.

Definitely try for a VQ at 7 AM. They have not been enforcing the return times, you could go later and should be able to use it.

That's the limit for every park goer.

You can get a third opportunity if you're staying at a Deluxe resort on the nights they do Extended Evening Hours (usually Mondays). The only other exception is a paid event like After Hours (which they're not offering right now), where they'll open the standby line.

For VQ, have one device open to the atomic clock and the other open on the VQ page. Refresh exactly at 7 and tap immediately to get the VQ.

I’d skip it and wait for an After Hours Epcot to coincide with you being in Orlando. After Hours people ride it over and over and over with no limit and limited lines.

Okay that's probably the smartest plan... what if instead we were stupid and... got a 1 day park hopper. Got up at 7am to get Guardians VQ and LLSP for "afternoon" along with LL for Tower of Terror, Expedition Everest, and something at MK. Left work stuff at lunch time. Got to the parks around 1pmish, to hit HS with Tower of Terror and a meal at Hollywood Derby, then take the boat to EPCOT, do our VQ & LLSP at Guardians, take a Minnie Van to AK for Everest, then take Minnie Van to MK to close out the day with whatever we can at HEA. That's crazy, but, uh, a better value right? Of course, the timing for the VQ and LLSP would have to work out but we could be flexible with AK/EE and HS/ToT.

Nope. Your 3 pre-booked LLMPs all need to be in the same park. After you tap into your first LL then the system is unlocked to modify into other parks/tiers with the remaining LLs or new LLs.

For the amount you'd be spending there, I'd take the whole day off and enjoy it more leisurely.

Drat. So I'd need to book 3 LLMP for HS and then switch one of them to Everest after I entered HS?

Even if I were to weasel out of work I'd be worried about spending that long in the heat. It's only October, and we've got some medical background that would make going that long in the sun tricky. We've actually never managed more than 5 hours in a park without an a/c break and usually that's at night.

After you enter AND tap into your first LL.
So VQ & LLSP for Guardians at 7. Make 3 ILL for HS pre-trip. Arrive at HS, use ILL for ToT. Immediately switch one of the remaining 2 ILL's for Everest and then switch another for something in MK. Go to EPCOT, do Guardians. Go to AK, do Everest. At that point I can make another ILL for something in MK, right?

Yup.

Except what you’re calling ILL is called a LLMP (I only mention that because if you need anymore help you will confuse people as ILL used to mean the LLSP rides).

Not knowing your full situation, apologies if this is out of turn:

One of the things we do for our summer trips is to split the day - do rope drop until around 11am, eat lunch, stay indoors for most of the afternoon, eat an early dinner, then hit the parks around 5/6pm and finish.

If you could work some percentage of the afternoon instead, you might have an easier time with the weather - and it might ease your scheduling. (You could use your three LLMP selections in the morning, then schedule your evening rides while there's some good availability.)

That would be a great idea, but I'm not sure where we'd be able to stay indoors for the afternoon. Our hotel in Orlando proper, about an hour each way from Disney. None of the Disney hotels do day rates. There's always multiple showings of Hall of Presidents I suppose...
