Guardians of the Galaxy ride.

People were freaking when GOTG was announced, but it seems like everyone is really digging it now! I thought it was a blast, can't wait to go on it again!

There are no pauses when the ride is in motion, like it used to pause briefly at the top or after a drop. At least in the Born to Be Wild sequence I had it was like 3-4 ups and downs in a row, THEN it would stop and play a clip, then repeat a sequence of 3-4 ups and downs. It would shoot up and IMMEDIATELY pull back down so the entire ride down was airtime then you would feel slammed down into your seat and be shot up again immediately. That's what I mean by no breaks in the action between the clips.

The loudest part is the outside queue because they do this dance party thing literally RIGHT NEXT to the queue, and the speakers are literally feet away. It was horrible. There were teenagers behind me in line who were like "that music is way too loud." That's how you know it is loud. LOL!

And then inside the ride, the music is SO loud. My gosh. And the screaming on top of it. Just too much.
I rode a few times. There were pauses each time.

The dance party happens a few times during the day. It's not always there. Music didn't seem too loud to me.

I thought the music was very much in the background.

Oh well. To each his/her own!

There's no break but there are lulls to watch tv? Sounds like breaks.
The ride actually doesn't stop moving when you're watching the screens. It continues to bounce up and down. But it's actually a way to simulate a 3D effect on the 2D screen, because the perspective of what you see on the screen changes as you move up and down. You can see it in videos of the ride.

I rode it once, and we did have a hard stop at the top where the pictures are taken, but other variations may not stop, I don't know.

LOVED IT! On our last day we all choose our "one more time must do" and try to make it happen. I usually choose Pirates. I chose GoTG this trip, it was that cool.

Tower of Terror is my favorite ride but I rode Guardians today at DCA and have to say it's awesome! I haven't seen the movie, so not sure about the theme but the ride itself was more intense than the former, more drops. Similar to RNR, you don't know which song you will get. Rode it twice, once at early opening and once with fast pass in the evening. Both times in my favorite back row.

When DH and I went in June I was a huge skeptic. I loved ToT and thought the GotG retheming was ugly to say the least. I went in thinking I'd hate it, but ended up LOVING IT. We rode 1st with the song "Free Ride" and at the very end the ride froze -- right as we were getting ready to get back to the elevator opening. It was only about 5 minutes, but when the doors opened the CM apologized for the malfunction and told us we could all ride again if we wanted. Those who wanted to ride again exited the elevator and we waited about 2-3 minutes for another one that we had all to ourselves (only about half the people wanted to ride again). This time it was "I Want You Back" as the song, which I enjoyed more. DH and I were laughing and screaming the entire ride, it was definitely fun.

To say I was angry at Disney for changing ToT (my favorite ride) was an understatement. And to top it all off, the changes included Marvel characters which I have zero interest in. Are you kidding me?! I was not happy. :sad2:

Even though I was irritated, I told myself to go in not being biased. OK, I'll admit I couldn't do that 100% -- the outside aesthetics are hideous, I hate it. Loved the old hotel theme better. The que is ehh. But then again, GoG isn't my thing.

However ...

The ride itself is AWESOME!!! Did 5 of the 6 sequences. (Haven't done "Born to be Wild".) Much more entertaining than ToT. Especially because the DCA version of ToT didn't have the random sequence that HS does. My daughter couldn't believe I said it won over ToT. :faint: We all loved it.

I'll admit the ride itself is 10x's better.

I still prefer the ToT theming over this though. :)
I got to ride GOTG my first time today. Should get in one more ride tomorrow and hopefully two more. This post summarizes my thoughts pretty well. Except I would not say I have zero interest in Marvel. I do have zero interest in having Marvel rides at Disney parks. I do watch some of the movies. I disliked the GOTG #1 movie but really enjoyed GOTG #2. If I had disliked #2 as much as #1 I do noth think I would feel the way I do about the new ride. But since I liked #2 the ride worked for me.

I will still forever say that Disney messed up by taking out the perfectly themed ToT Hollywood Tower Hotel from Hollywood Land at (duh) Disney's California Adventure. Perfect theme. Perfect land. Perfect park. Even more so than DHS in Florida.

IMO Disney should have build GOTG as a separate, new ride. Since Disney does not listen to me, what they have now with the GOTG ride at least is good which only partially absolves them for me. :)

Well, there was the licensing issue so they had to do something with ToT. Glad you enjoyed the ride.

Are you able to go through the queue and then not ride like you used to be able to with Tower? I'm assuming so but thought I'd check.

My husband gets really random motion sickness and vertigo and has been going back and forth on if he should ride or not. Sometimes he's fine and other times he's not.

He's never been on Tower (it didn't appeal to him enough to risk it) but he's a huge Guardians fan and really wants to go but is super nervous and is worried about it messing up his head for the entire day.

Our plan was to go straight there for fast passes and I told him maybe he can just go through the queue with us and then not ride and then maybe at the end of the night before close we could get in the standby line and it be the last thing we do in case he is affected by it. At least then we'd be heading back to the hotel and he could sleep it off.

Yes you can opt out and exit right before boarding the lift. Just let they cast members know when the put you in your group.

If he's a GotG fan he'll love the queue.

They practically forced my kids who were not riding to go through the queue. It was a misunderstanding. We were asking for rider switch passes but the guy at the front assumed we wanted to take them through since they were tall enough to ride and then just switch up top. After we got it all straightened out we realized they must get a lot of requests for this. So, I think yes, you probably can. Just ask.

Have you been on it? Do you like it? Is it the same as Tower of Terror as far as dropping?

This is my seven year-old daughter's new favorite ride. She rode it over and over because we had to use switch passes. She'd ride with me and then ride again with my husband. It is so much fun. The music pumps you up and the drop sequences are "randomized" to go with the music. There are also different scenes. It really is a blast. I tolerated TOT because it was my husband's favorite. I really enjoy Guardians.

That is news to me! What issue was there? Why would impact only DLR and not WDW?

:wizard:
My understanding, CBS owns the license, contract not renewed after 2018. WDW version holds a contract til 2021/2022?. After that, it's fate may be the same.

I rode it twice on our trip, the end of June. I also had never ridden TOT, but the GOTG theming made me try it. I am NOT a thrill ride person. Heights and drops are not my thing, but I told myself I was going to give this a try. Big Thunder Mountain is my favorite roller coaster. The Matterhorn and Space Mountain I do with the family, but I wouldn't ride them if they didn't. I'm not sure if he's ever ridden Mission Space in Florida, but THAT gave me some strange vertigo issues after riding it, back before they had a calm side and a full power side.

I have to admit, I enjoyed GOTG. Our pictures from the ride don't bear that out. I'm holding on to the seat handles for dear life and in one of the pictures I look like I'm struggling in the restroom from a diet that includes way too much cheese, but it was pretty fun. The lift acceleration is as smooth as they can make it and then you get a weightless feeling in the drops. It does bounce a bit during some of the stops, but it's not jerky and I never got a dizzy motion out of it. It was more of a, "oh crap, how far is it going to fall this time," sensation. I will say that I've had issues with pinched nerves in my back in the past and both times after the ride I could feel it in my back. I never felt hurt, I could just feel my back, if that makes sense.

That is my understanding as well, why there is more of a Marvel presence in the California parks vs. the Florida parks.

But why wasn't the contract renewed? Does CBS have some better offer somewhere else on this aging show? It's not like people are clamoring to see the show and buy Twilight Zone merchandise. Did Disney just decide they were tired of paying for it and decide to pave the way for more GotG?

My understanding is that it's more that they want to bring in more Marvel, which is a huge money making franchise, and they can do that in California, but can't do it in Florida (yet). That's why you hear the talk of Marvel land in DCA, but no similar talk for DHS at this time.

There is some issue with Marvel and WDW of which I do not know the details. Before Disney bought them Marvel had an exclusive deal with Universal Orlando. That deal has to be honored by Disney and it means for now Disney has restrictions with what it can and cannot do with Marvel at WDW.

And that's certainly their right (even though I'm not a Marvel fan). I'm just curious if they're blaming a non contract renewal when they could be the ones who didn't renew it.

And while I don't know the ins and outs of the Marvel contract, I thought GotG was able to used on either coast, which is why there was speculation ToT could end up going GotG at DHS as well. I have to think that even though I still hold a grudge about DCA, it's been so well received that I could see them giving this another look for DHS.
