What is the best way to secure a FP to be able to ride as close to 5:00pm opening as possible? Log into MaxPass at 3:00? Or what time to line up for paper FP to be near front of FP line?

Or....can we just watch the wait time and hop in line so that we are near the front at 5:00? Or do they clear the line at some point for the changeover?

Thank you!!

The standby line is really long all day. I guess you could time it with wait time and monitor that way. Seems like Max Pass would be so much easier and time efficient.

I logged into MP at about 2.50 and started refreshing. At 3.01 I got a return time for 5.25. This was on 9/28, the crowds were moderate.

MaxPass is the best. The Fastpass distribution line is very long (at 3pm last Saturday it went thru the backstage area then looped all the way out to the entrance of Hollywoodland. By the time you would get to the front you would end up with a very late return time, if they still have any left! If you want a FP in the first hour you need MaxPass.

Start checking MP prior to 3, say around 2:45-2:50pm, as they opened it early via MP each day we were there in late September.

If your going to do standby, I would get in line at 4pm when they begin the change over process. That's what I did on Saturday. We were able to get into the outside part of the queue. They held us outside the building until about 4:40pm, when they were ready to let us in and board onto the ride. So I waited all together about 50 minutes, which was considerably less than if I had gotten into the standby line when the ride officially reopened at 5pm.

We were at the parks from 10-2 through 10-7. During those days the CM's discouraged Pre-Lineup for the 3pm draw of FP's. But people did line up anyway beginning around 2pm.

On Friday the CM's opened the gates around 2pm when the pre-line became a massive crowd causing a road block in the area. By the time 3pm rolled around the back area was PACKED. The CM's said if they ran out of FP's and you were in the area behind the gate you'd be guaranteed a FP. If you were in the line and didn't get in behind the gate, you wouldn't get a FP.

I asked how long it had been taking to run out of FP's to include MP's. The CM said on Thursday they ran out in 15minutes and the gate was closed. They said it took 45 minutes to get those behind the gate through the FP machines.

Here's a pic of them letting the people in behind the gate at 2pm
