Guaranteed Rooms Near Each Other?

Need two rooms, but can only get "guaranteed" status. Do they usually try and give you two rooms near each other if your reservations are linked and you are a family traveling together?

No. GTY rooms are the last rooms available in a category. People prior to the GTY status were able to select specific rooms. This generally results in single rooms being scattered around the ship. In the past people have reported that their rooms have been on different decks when they have booked two GTY rooms. You really are agreeing to two rooms anywhere on the ship when you book GTY.

Our experience with more than one room and GTY: first time 2 rooms - next door to each other, not connecting and different lifeboat stations; second time 3 rooms - all next door to each other, none connecting, same lifeboat station.

I'm a newbie, haven't even gone on our first cruise yet, but this is what happened to us.

My brother booked his cruise about a week before us, so about 8 weeks before we sail and got the GTY rate, he also got a cabin # at the same time.

A week later he talked us into going with them, I was able to book one of the last cabins on the boat, we are sailing March 30th on the Disney Wonder! Anyways we didn't get a cabin # right away, I called about something different and during that call I was able to link our to reservations together so we would be sitting together at dinner. Anyways the next day I got our cabin # and we are two rooms away from my brother! So we are pretty happy with that!

From the DCL website:

"Linking staterooms means that if one or both staterooms have not yet been assigned, the staterooms will be located as close together as possible."

So, yes, they will try. On some sailings, "as close together as possible" could mean next door. On other sailings, it could be decks away.

actually, we had GTY our last disney cruise, it was a 10 day over easter, and it was a kids sail free, our friends booked a GTY, we linked our reservations for meals, and such, we got connecting rooms

Those who have posted their experiences so far are the happy ones. There have been many threads over the year where people have posted about being upset with seperate rooms. There have been a few times where people have actually managed to switch rooms with other DISers on their meet thread to get their rooms closer when they had young kids split between both rooms. It could work out in your favor, but nothing is guaranteed about multiple rooms being anywhere near each other.

That's what I'm afraid of. Our family of 4 is currently booked in a SPH for Europe this summer, but we were thinking of switching to two cat 11A or 11B for a bit more space. I think I will hold on to the SPH for now. Thanks for the advice!

We are scheduled for our 2nd cruise with the same family. We have and will have connecting rooms. We linked our reservations together from the outset and any changes that we needed to make we did it via conference call with Disney. We have had no problems doing it that way even when we changed our cruise to another one to take advantage of the KSF.

I've read good and bad reports. We risked it (well, we had no choice, as they wouldn't book all four of us in one room--we had to book 2) and received two connecting rooms. They even upgraded us to do it. We had some special booking problems, so they may have been going out of their way to accommodate us. But it's still possible. We would do it again, as long as it was a category GTY and not a *GT rate. At least that way we are reasonably certain to get the same floor. Not guaranteed, but likely. And if not, we could live with it. Worst case: if you can't stand your room assignments, try for an upgrade at port.

My experience with an inside guarantee for two rooms on the Wonder a couple of years ago. We ended up with two oceanviews next to each other, but my guess was the ship was less than full since we got assigned ocean views and paid for the lowest category.

We just got our cabin numbers yesterday for our cruise next Saturday. We have two rooms and we got lucky that they are next to each other. I don't think the cruise is full so that probably had a lot to do with it. However, last summer we also cruised but had four rooms. Unfortunately they were scattered all over the boat but then again it was summertime and the ship was full.

I think they do the best they can and sometimes you get lucky and sometimes not.
