Hey y'all,

I've cruised a ton, but only once was a gty room. We are sailing on
Jan. 28th in a cat. 10 GTY. We booked about 2 months ago and still don't have a room assignment.

Am I right to hope that the longer it takes (and closer to the sailing date) that the chances of being upgraded are better?

We have reservations linked to another family. I wonder how that plays with the upgrade fairy...

any ideas?:goodvibes

Gty assignments are typically made about 30 days before sailing, occasionally as early as 45.

There are 2 kinds of linkages. Fully linked reservations (same category, etc) are typically placed next to each other or within a door or two. DCL made the huge mistake of splitting up family bookings in March, 2009 and learned their lesson! The other kind of linkage was called "cross referenced for dining" by a CM on the phone to me. This linkage does not count at all in cabin placement.

You are completely wrong on one point. At some point, inventory control will pull all the gty ressies and do assignments. They are all made within a few hours. HOWEVER, any gty assignment can be changed up to the time of check in--if they can sell your cabin and get another family on board, they will. Also, the general rule is that no upgrades will exceed 3 levels. SO, the best upgrade you will get would be to a cat 7. Do not be surprised or disappointed if the upgrade fairy doesn't sprinkle pixie dust on you; be happy to be on the ship.

Obviously I know better than to assume that I will be upgraded. Do I hope to be upgraded? Of course. Do I expect to be upgraded? Of course not. I'm not a novice cruiser so please don't treat me that way. I realize I can be mistaken, but COMPLETELY wrong, wow...
:rolleyes1

I typically prefer to choose my rooms at booking, but because of the "kids sail free" I had to take gty.

So from your answer I should expect to see my room assignment in a couple weeks. Also, our rooms are linked for dining purposes only.
Thanks for the quick response.

Sorry to have offended...I actually deleted a part of that sentence and should have re-read before submitting. What you are wrong about is the idea that the longer it takes to get an assignment the greater the chance of an upgrade. That's just not the way it works.
