Grumpy Cast Members?

I do understand how crowds (and boy oh boy was it ever crowded!) can be hard on the CM's. Really, I do. But they are getting paid to be there for us... right? If someone is being a butthead, yeah, I suppose I cant blame a CM for getting snippy... but they should not let it linger over onto other guests. I wont harp about how people save, plans and take two flights and taxis' etc to get there and spend thier hard earned money at Disney, when in fact there are other options where folks could spend thier money. (Maybe I just harped) but I do expect the CM's to try to do thier job. MOST DO! Dont get me wrong. MOST DO! But I saw an abnormal amount of them who did not try that week. Really, we have to be honest- working with the public ISNT for everyone.

I have to say with all the standing in line I talked to SO MANY really cool families! Utah, Idaho and Seattle were a few. Fun nice people! I never did ask them if they were on this forum, and I just bet some were. I should have asked.

The absolute nicest CM this trip was the guy who seems to always drive the firetruck. Nicest guy!! We also had two wait-staff who were new and in training. :rotfl2: Michael from Cafe Orleans laughed with us as he spilled a coke on hubbys lab. Ooops! LOL! It was ok. We totally knew he was in training, and laughed with him. He was so nervous!! That kind of thing is totally no biggy, and even sort of fun to try to relax them. But the snippy ones who act like I am bothering them are no fun, and make me wonder how many people in SoCal would love to have their job.

If you sit back and watch two people interact see if you can recognize this.

Each person comes in speaking at level 5 of 10. One person disagrees so starts talking at level 6. So the other goes up to level 6. Then it goes to 7, to 8, to 9, to 10........ It's natural to battle to win. Few can step back and get out of the fight.

Then they depart and aren't back to a 5 when they talk to the next person.

Even the nicest person in the world can get snippy after they've been sniped at repeatedly. Working with the public can very difficult, I worked at Target for 6 years, you would not believe some of the things people would do when we were slammed busy. Unless the CM is cussing or yelling at me I will give them a pass, especially because you can usually tell when they are stressing out or just had a difficult conversation with someone. It's not easy working at the Happiest Place on Earth.....

I understand the difference a grumpy CM can make on your vacation. We went to DLR last month, after having always gone in the busy Summer months. What a difference! We had our pick of Characters walking around the entire time! And the most amazing thing to us was the disposition of the CM's. They were really friendly. I was surprised at the impact it had on our trip because we felt totally immersed Disney, as if we had entered a portal to a different world. This is what Walt envisioned for the guests. In the summer we usually run across several CM's that are grumpy, but we understand that heat and obnoxious guests don't mix well! :rotfl2: Let's face it, we have all had to stand next to some people in line that make us scratch our heads! The CM's are only human. I did have one incident where a CM was completely out of line and I reported it to the lead. But most things I just shrug off because I am determined to enjoy my time there.

This is one of the reasons I always go in the "off" season. Everything is so much better, more relaxed, hence more "magical":wizard:

We just got back from a week at DL- and I wondered if anyone else noticed a change in the cast members? Our last trip was 12/10, and wow, so many cast members this trip (Presidents week) were REALLY CRABBY! What happened to the Disney Magical Experience? :confused3 It was so noticable that when we did have a great CM it was a breath of fresh air. Whats going on?

I think Disney cut back on there payroll or it might be it's 100 degrees and they're dressed up in outfits sweating there tails off!:confused3

Agreed! You couldn't pay me to go during high season. I don't have the patience for it.

I've seen it on the decline as well and I'd like to blame it on the younger generation's attitude and upbringings but unfortunately I have noticed it in the adults as well. Customer Service in this country has deteriorated as a whole!

On the flipside, as much as I've love Disneyland; some of the rudest people I've ever met in my life were the patrons visiting the park. I'd imagine it would be a donning task to always gleam sunshine out of ones Uranus.

Not as many as you might think!!

Many local companies have much better working conditions--better pay, regularly scheduled part time hours, better benefits.

Those who work at Disneyland really, REALLY want to work for Disney.

The days of Disneyland being a fantastic place to work might have passed a while ago.
