I have been trying since April to get a custom manual wheelchair. My chair is being covered by my Auto insurance and as such I have to go thru people that they approve of.

Well I was given a fitting for one in May by Comfort Medical out of Florida. The guy they sent asked me personal questions that had nothing to do with the chair and tried to sell me other equipment that had nothing to do with a chair or what he was sent out to do. Needless to say I refused to work with this guy again. And to top it off the measurements that he took were no where close to the same ones that was done at Physical Therapy and my Physical Therapist had to spend the next 2 months doing this guys job. Between my Therapist and me, we filled out everything that I needed and wanted and faxed it back to him.

It is now August and the chair was approved by the insurance to order.

My insurance company and myself kept up with Comfort Medical, and was told that the chair was ordered August 25.

To make a long story short. Today I find out that the chair was never ordered and everything that the rep at Comfort Medical told us was a lie after lie.

The only reason that they even called me about it today was because I had filed a report against them with the Better Business Bureau. Otherwise they would not answer anyone's phone calls or emails.

The insurance company is now going with another company. Maybe I will get my chair next year? I guess we will wait and see. :confused3

All I can say is that it is a good thing that I can still walk some, and I do have a scooter to use, but the chair is to fill in the gap between my crutches and when the scooter is not a good solution.

Do not use this company if you can at any cost!! There are more complaints out there like mine against this company.

Sorry to hear about your experience.

Getting a new wheelchair has always been a long and somewhat arduous (love that word for this situation) process for us. The therapist part always works out, the equipment company part - not so much. And the insurance company usually makes us re-write everything several times. (you would think need would be pretty clear cut with someone who can't walk at all and can't it up in a chair for more than a few minutes without more support)

Good luck to you in getting what you need.

UPDATE!!!

I finally got my chair!!!! I got it in the end of March, after I also received some braces that correct my gait to a major degree. The braces have allowed me for the most part to get rid of my crutches. I still need the chair and scooter for distances, but something is better than nothing.

I do love the chair. It is the nicest and most comfortable chair that I have ever sat in and used. I can't wait till my next trip to Disney where I will probably walk some and then ride some in my new chair. I haven't been able to walk in Disney for any length of time since 2008! :cool1::banana::woohoo:
