Grrrr! People annoy me!

Everyone will have opinions. I know in the back of my mind that family/friends wonder why or how I can afford WDW so much or, better yet, look at the price for the cruise two weeks before we set sail over Easter on the Fantasy then tell me it must be nice to have money :sad2:

It's my money and I will spend it how it pleases me and I will happily tell you so. I never understood the need for people to get into each others financial business. I don't even tell my MIL (with whom I am VERY close) or my own mother anything about our finances.

We're not the only ones! We have our first cruise booked for May of next year, and although we haven't talked about how much we are spending we have already gotten comments like, " Did you win the lottery and not tell us?" and " Must be nice. I haven't been on a vacation in 7 years. I can't afford it". I'm sure your family is like ours, and your family works hard for what money you do have. And I agree with you completely. Whatever you decide to spend your hard earned $ on is your decision.:teacher:

This happens to me all the time, too. My family and I took the DCL Alaska cruise in 2011, and came back to a parade of people annoying us over how much more expensive Disney is compared to other cruise lines and that it was wasteful of us to pay that much for "essentially the same thing" Well, they can stuff it. Because we are very big on Disney in my house and it was worth every penny! We saved up for almost two years for it, and it still to this day is our favorite vacation we've ever taken. Honestly, I think some people are jealous. Come on. The colorful DCL's look so impressive compared to all the other ships in the port ;) Then again, not everyone enjoys Disney as much as we all do.

Well I believe the difference is this is a Disboard. We aren't going into the general public and bashing other cruise lines. The point I was making in regards to Carnival was that I didn't enjoy my experience at all. We were new to cruising, and I didn't know that anything 5 days and under is considered a booze cruise and we don't drink. So we didn't exactly feel included or part of the cruise. But in public if someone comes up and says they are going on a cruise, I ask which one. If they tell me, I don't bash their cruise, I don't tell them to ditch that one and go for DCL. If they were to ask me, then I would tell them about DCL and why we enjoy it more.

I think it would be different if I were to go on a Carnival forum and start talking down to them.

There's been a lot of threads on here about other cruise lines or people asking about other cruise lines.

Personally, I think when someone is that adamant about convincing you that how they vacation, or their vacation choices are better....it is really more about how they feel about their own choices and wanting to not feel like they are missing out on something (can't accept that someone else might have chosen/experienced something better...otherwise they would have to feel "less than"). Sooooo....if they convince you that they are right...they don't have to feel bad....AND they have the "added bonus" of knowing that you also think they had the better experience (a "one up" sort of thing). Just my opinion...

Bingo! Very insightful. Can I come lie on your couch and tell you my troubles? Lol!

just booked a cruise for next year, this will be our second cruise (first was also Disney) and my parents first ever. My aunt likes to cruise a lot but only with Cunard, when my mum told her we were booked to go, she snobbishly said 'just don't judge all cruises by the Disney one you're going on' I mean WTH?! Why say that to someone, talk about taking away the excitement from my mum. And how would she know anyway? She has never been on a Disney cruise!

Anyway, rant over...
Aw this is so mean - she's obviously in the mindset of people who think that Disney parks are all about fast food and cheap tat! ;) I never understand why some people get so hung up on other people's choices. :confused3

Hope your mum hasn't taken too much notice and is getting very excited for her first cruise.

Thanks to this thread I discovered Cunard. It does look awesome. I must say that I love luxury and they only reason we did not try Carnival or Norwegian (except maybe for the Breakaway that looks awesome and that I would love to try for a Bermuda cruise) is because I though DCL ships looked better. But now I think Cunard ships look just as good as the DCL ones. :)

I think Disney and Cunard ships look like 'proper' ships ;) unlike some which remind me of floating shoe boxes ;) :rotfl:

My sister watched the 75th anniversary of the Cunard line earlier this week where they brought the three Queens (Mary 2, Elizabeth and Victoria) together in Liverpool. She went to see them but I still can't persuade her to cruise, whether it be Cunard, DCL or whoever!

Cunard is a beautiful line - but its like comparing Carnival to Disney - 2 completely different types of cruises. I just priced out a Panama Canal sailing like we are doing on Disney in 2016. Disney was $4500 and Cunard was $10,000.
Just tell her "It must be nice to have so much money" :)

"you can pick your friends, but you can't pick your family :)"

i agree, it's a completely different experience and Cunard is of course all about luxury, I was just so mad she was thoughtless to say something like that to my mum! Luckily mum just brushed it off as jealousy and is still super excited!! What she doesn't know is that my dad has booked her on a Viking river cruise this year for their 40th wedding anniversary :dogdance: she will find out in August!

Some day I would like to cruise DCL, but unfortunately it is way out of my budget. I hear so many great things, but every time I bring it up, my sister (a Carnival groupie) tells us how it is no where near as nice as Carnival (on which my wife and I have cruised a few times). I want the Disney magic (not the boat, the pixie dust, lol). So I will save my pennies and maybe I can go before my son graduates high school in six years...lol.

Hey...I know I am spending more on DCL than other cruiselines for the cruise. I have done my research. Here's part of my reason: I like Disney. I like cruising. Why not combine the two?!?!? But that's me and not someone else. I say if you like whatever cruise line..go with them. I think that's why there's a number of cruise lines out there.

Do you think your snooty aunt knows that Cunard is owned by Carnival?

I am not sure what this is supposed to imply, but to be more precise, quite a few cruise lines are controlled by the Carnival Corporation (which is a different entity from Carnival Cruise Line), including Carnival, Cunard, Seabourn, Costa, Princess, and Holland America. Each cruise line operates independently, although there is some overlap (the same man has responsibility for Princess, Seabourn, and HAL, for example).

We've gotten the same replies when people find out we've booked another DCL cruise. I know someday (hopefully not) my kids won't want to do Disney and that's fine with me. But for now, we all have a blast and everyone else can mind their own;)

We feel the EXACT same way!

That's great. Cunard is a luxury line, and I'm sure it's awesome. DCL is arguably the best family cruise line, and I've heard nothing but great things about Viking. Enjoy your cruise.
