Grrr - Pfaltzgraff recall!

I will never buy Pfaltzgraff dishes again. It took me 3 years to decide what to buy because I first selected a gorgeous pattern, Evening Sunflower, which I realized wouldn't work because the plates are so large they wouldn't fit in my cupboards & would have only allowed me to use one side of the bottom rack of the dishwasher. After about a year of searching for something I liked, I decided to be boring & selected their Cappucino pattern. I bought a sample plate at the outlet, tried it out at home & decided it worked. About a year and a half later I finally got back to purchase the settings & serving pieces, again at the outlet, which is a few hours from home.

When I finally unpacked it at home, I thought it looked a little pale, but decided it was only because I had truly wanted the Sunflower pattern. I was also shocked to read "made in China" on the bottoms when I was washing it. After we had used the plates I realized they scratch & mar badly, aren't level & are actually a different tone than the sample plate which I originally purchased, which is "made in USA". I hate, loathe & abominate these dishes & cannot wait to find something I actually want so I can bring myself to replace what cost me hundreds.

Obviously quality control wasn't deemed necessary when they moved production overseas.

:guilty: I have the same problem with the Thailand Almafi Mediterrain:sad1: and the other coordinating set that is slighly different is made in the usa. I wish I picked that one.

Imzadi, now you've REALLY convinced me these are going back! No glass plates to eat on - they're going back!

Pfaltzgraff, the company, changed a few years ago - now they're a division of a company that has several different companies under their umbrella - I think their quality has suffered because of it.

I am just worried that when I call tomorrow they will not replace everything - just the recalled pieces. If I go with the Pistoulet set, some of my pieces will coordinate, but if it's another set, I'll have to get all new stuff.

I have the Pistoulet set, tons of it. How do we know that the same glazes used in the *very* similar Villa Della Luna weren't used in the Pistoulet, as well?

I just sent a very angry letter to Pfaltzgraff...

Does anybody know who makes plates in America? Are there any manufacturers left here? I mean, sheesh, it's getting ridiculous...

The reason I found this is because the Perfect Flame grill (made in China) that I bought for DH over the summer turns out to be CATCHING ON FIRE all over the place because the chinese evidently thought magnesium would be a good substitute for stainless steel. Yah, except that magnesium is highly flammable and cannot be put out by normal extinguishers.

That finding led me to another finding that the boxes I bought at Lowe's to keep the kids' toys in was full of lead (made in china), and I had to bring it back.

Which led me to the Pfaltzgraff recall.

:headache: :sad2:

Seriously, how much dangerous crap is in my house? And why aren't the manufacturers trying harder to let us know???

kick - those aren't the recalled ones - the recalled ones are the dinner plates, gold with the pretty trim, and the floral bowls.

I returned all my plates and bowls, got 6 embossed plates " for now" and will get new plates and bowls when the ones without the lead are released - October/November.

I haven't seen the dishes in a notice, but in general, signing up on the recall list is a good idea. You can find the subscription options here: http://www.cpsc.gov/cpsclist.aspx

We've had a too-breakable wooden play thing for DS and a pair of soft-soled boots with snaps that came off too easily from Robeez recalled, and got full refunds for them b/c we knew about it. Right now a big bad thing being recalled is a play soccer net whose openings are too big and a tragedy happened. It's a good list to be signed up for!
