Grrr @ DCL breaking news

imo DCL should only have female CM's in the kids clubs. No men near kids at all. I'm a man and I'm 100% for banning male CM's around kids. 95% of paedos are male. it's sad but its the way this world is.

Does this mean that should also stop letting dads, uncles, grandads, Male friends, big brothers, go in and collect the kids too?

And "no men near kids at all", just ban all males from the ship in general? And WDW?

If you that worried that your child is going to be molested while in the kids club maybe you shouldn’t put them in there.
What about when they are in school?
He’s not in school. If I put him in the kids club at the gym, I watch the kids club channel while I’m on the treadmill. It’s equivalent to a doggy cam at doggy day care. Should people not watch those either?
I’d love cameras at school, btw. There are cameras on buses. Why not?
Let’s give parents the right to see their kids whenever they’d like to.

How will it remedy cases like these?
Are you going to be watching your kid on your phone/nanny cam 8 hours a day, while sunbathing by the pool, while sipping a drink at a bar, etc?
This is an awful case and I think parents should pressure DCL for stricter background checks on their CM's

The background checks are extremely strict. It takes forever to get them done before we can start. Background checks don’t always mean much though, just shows if someone has a criminal history not if they may do something in the future.

There are video surveillance cameras in the clubs for the exact reason that they worked in this case, they're not there so the public can view them when ever they want, again this would be a PRIVACY RIGHTS violation for the other children in the clubs. DCL uses them for the purpose they were intended and they were able to obtain evidence that helped them identify and remove the threat! If you're that worried about who is around your children in the kids clubs just don't put them in there! This instance is a rare happening and DCL takes every precaution they can to make sure the employee's they hire are of the highest caliber that they can find. Will someone nefarious slip through? Maybe, but they do what they can to prevent it. Education of your children is also a big part of this, teach them to make noise, scream, tell another adult if ANYONE does anything to them that they're not comfortable with. Drawing attention to the situation will stop it dead in it's tracks.

Furthermore, as a mom of sons, I find it horrible that people are so eager to assume all men are evil. Most men are normal, respectable, caring and responsible. Even the ones that aren't yet fathers.

That’s right! The guys that I currently work with in youth activities on one of the ships are amazing with the kids!! They definitely are an integral part of the team.

I am surprised that people are surprised. This isn't the first time something like this has happened on DCL. There was an officer involved in an elevator incident a few years ago. Another issue with a state room host with a young person in their stateroom. It happens.
Its a floating city of strangers. Ones who paid to be on vacation and ones we are paying to be on for our service. Strangers! I recently read a post about how a person paid the premium to sail on DCL because something like this could never happen. Pffttt. Of course it could, did and will happen again in the future. We need to teach our children to report these things, like this child did, and we need to make sure they travel with someone they know, not just someone they met online before the cruise. I mean do you know their parents?
I'm not a helicopter parent but I'm also not lenient either. I don't leave my child alone with someone I have only spoke to online, only met once. Having said that, knowing the adult doesn't necessarily make a difference either but its a start.
Sorry if this sounds like a lecture. I just get so frustrated when I read people tell others they are silly for worrying about letting their children run free. After all, its Disney......
He wasn’t running free.

I never said he was.

You said you get frustrated when other people say parents are silly for worrying about letting their child run free. And you wrote a long post about how people are foolish to think this stuff doesn't happen because it's Disney.
This was a staff member hired to take care of the children in the children's club. I'm shocked and disappointed and it puts some fear and doubt in my mind about the Disney clubs. I knew I shouldn't let my kids run around by themselves or get on elevators with a stranger, but I certainly thought sending them to the club was safe. I think that's where the surprise comes in for people. If it had been another guest who molested the boy... horrible and upsetting, but yes, these things happen. A staff member hired to protect and care for my children? Shocking and appalling.

Maybe this was already stated, because I haven't read every single post, but I would think that another staff member would have seen it? Certainly they have "two deep" leadership in all the rooms in the club?

Yes, but how does that equate to me saying he was running free?

I stand by everything I did say. It is foolish to think this stuff doesn't happen because its Disney yet many feel this way. Whether its a staff member hired to take care of children or a staff member hired to clean your room, their still strangers. We need to make sure our children know to speak up, which, as I stated, this child did. Talk to your child when they come back from the club. Ask how it went, what happened, who played what. This sort of thing doesn't happen often but it does happen.
It's not only another guest who can be the molester as shocking and appalling as that may be.

I can't figure out what kids running free has to do with a kid being molested in a childcare facility.

But, would you like other strangers to also get to sit and watch your kid on video whenever they like and from anywhere they like? That’s the problem with allowing public (even limited) access to videos; you can’t control the other viewers. I‘m not as worried about a weirdo staring at my dog, but would absolutely not want other parents to be able to watch and record my kids in schools or clubs every day.

And I can't figure out why someone thinks I said that. No where did I say he was running free or that kids running free had anything to do with a kid being molested in a childcare facility. Maybe my post could be read more carefully.

Agreed. Why would you want other parents watching your kid on video. Most kids are molested by their own parents or family members.

Everything Elle21 said.

Everything Elle21 said.
And yet Elle21 didn't answer the question on how what I said equates to me saying he was running free. I didn't. Elle21 has taken what I said and put a spin on it.
Again, I stand by what I said which was not that he was running free. No where did I say that.
This whole conversation is getting stupid. You want to think DCL is completely safe then think DCL is completely safe. I'm not looking to change anyone's mind. Just voicing my opinion. You and Elle21 can to, just don't put words in my mouth please.

Disney released a statement stating they have a zero tolerance policy. That is stating an assumed obvious. I want to know if any steps are being taken to ensure this doesn't happen again. Additional cast members in the clubs who report to security, real time monitoring by an independent security company, pairing of cast members, anything beyond having a zero tolerance policy.

Also the reason this is just coming to light is because the Miami Herald picked it up based on the upcoming court date for this human trash.

Just remember that 99.9% of the time, the youth activities spaces are safe. There is always two people in every area of all of the spaces. Of course if we were to see something happening we are trained to report it to our managers.
