GRR - how wet?

This is our first summer trip (I used to go in summer but that was before GRR, or I'd just do DLR and not DCA) and DD6 has asked to go on GRR before - but we've said no because we thought we'd get wet and cold. How wet DO you get, because I'm sure DD will be asking again and it will be hard to say no when it's hot out! I just don't want to walk around looking like a drowned rat for the rest of the day!

It depends where you sit, and your luck. Some seats get absolutely drenched, some get almost nothing at all. But it's not like you know when you sit down.

Yup, total crap shoot. You could go down a dip backwards or go under the waterfall and get drenched. You could be on the opposite side of all the water or just get splash here and there. Either way, it's 90 right now and you'll dry in no time. Bring some flip flops or something for the ride and have fun.

Last time we rode it some poor little girl forgot to put her designer purse in the little cove holes and she was yelling please take my purse, please take my purse. But it was to late and off we went. We all got soaked.

They do have lockers for this ride, I think. We just ride when we are about to exit the park, so we do not care how wet we get, unless it is a very hot day, then who cares? Keep your feet up, and it's usually fine. But we do not mind getting wet, and we won't wear ponchos on this ride (but many guests do).

We went on GRR last year, it was dark and chilly. I just could not resist, as we were leaving the park, and our room was not far (at VGC). We went on, and almost no one was riding, a walk on, and we got our own raft (me and DS). It is really fun in the complete darkness, it was almost 9 pm. They said we could stay on and ride again, but I decided to be a responsible adult and decline.

It is a total luck of the draw, which is why I don't ride. I hate hate hate getting wet in clothes. A possible solution is for you guys to bring and wear ponchos, others do that frequently.

REALLY, REALLY WET!! I've never come off of this ride dry in any way. I've worn a poncho and still ended up wet somehow!!

I was soaked through to my underwear when I went on it last month! I was sitting by the opening and a lot water splashes in there. Definitely bring flip flops or wear Tevas like I did. It's really fun though!

My 6 year old DD and I rode it, wearing ponchos, and still were quite wet. But we were in the seats on either side of the opening.

I think the little store next to the ride sells ponchos so if you really don't want to get wet you should get one of those. Like others have said it is hit or miss on who gets wet on the ride.

Yea your going to get wet. If you have a small group you can keep your feet from getting wet by putting them up on the seats or in the middle as much as possible. Also leaning forward in your seat when you see possible splash points coming up helps as well. I can often times just get a little wet but there are times when a big splash just happens to land directly on me regardless of how I sit or put my feet.

We rode it for the first time on our trip last week. We had never done it before because DS doesn't like wet clothes...but this time, we were staying at GCH and figured we'd just go change when we were done riding. We used the free lockers to store our shoes in, and wore flip flops on the ride.

We rode twice, and were completely drenched both times. The 2nd time, DS sat by one of the openings, and got it even worse than the first ride.

We were happy to go up to our hotel room and change out of our soaking wet clothes. We even had to change our underwear!

Having said all that, it was really fun :-)

My family's last experience was that of "sitting in the bathtub while a hurricane raged overhead" wet! WET!

Yup...that about sums up my rides on it! I HATE wet socks and underwear regardless of how hot it is and this is one ride I avoid like the plague unless it is the last ride of the day and I am staying at the Grand to go change right away!

They can and do tone it down off season and cold days...and some do come out unscathed...but plan on getting wet!

Yes plan to get wet! But it's totally worth it! Love that ride! We do usually plan for it before our afternoon break. The worst is wet shoes so I like the idea of bringing flip flops to wear for it. Great ride! Just do it!

+1 count on getting soaked and enjoy the ride. It's one of my favourites.

Ain't no joke, you're going to get soaked! I always wear water proof sandals and easy to dry clothes. I also carry a zip lock bag for anything I forget to/don't want to put in a locker. For example, I love to take before and after pictures of the family while sitting in the raft. The rest of the time the camera is zip locked in a bag.

Put your wallet , camera ,iphone and park tickets in a plastic bag. My Grand Daughter got her park hopper ticket so wet that it was no longer readable at the FastPass machines. The CMs had to issue FPs manually . If it got a little worse, we would of had to go to Guest Services to get a replacement for admission

Last trip, we got hit with the geyser near the end of the ride. We were soaked! They really probably shouldn't have been running the geyser that day, since the high was only in the 60's...

Riding this ride, you want to get wet! Isn't that the point;)
DD got the shirt from the store there that says "Staying dry is not an option". She will ride it over and over again (single rider) until she is properly drenched.
Use the lockers!
We stay at VGC, so we just leave everything there, ride a few times and then go back to change.
