Hello everyone!! :wave2:

I am Jess and this is my first trip report! I loved reading through all the trip reports while planning my vacation, so I feel it is my civic duty to create one as well. Being as it is my first, please bear with me.

This vacation came about as a result of two failed Disney vacation attempts. We have kids, we planned to take them to Disney World. Booked flights, rooms, parties, etc. Then we all got sick. Then the kids decided they won't go on a plane. And they don't want to visit Disney World (I know... I don't get it either).

Soooooo, we had a couple flight credits with Southwest that were about to expire, and needed to take a vacation but sans children. Since I had spent months planning Disney World for the other failed attempts, I figured why not follow through now! But we could only get away for a few days, and needed to pack as much Disney (and Universal) Magic pixiedust:as possible in those days.

Day 1: Travel... POFQ... HS... Epcot... Beach Club
Day 2: Universal... MK... DS
Day 3: AK... Poly... MK... DS
Day 4: HS... Travel Home

Day 1!

We booked it out of OKC nice and early, and were surprised to see close to no line at airport security. We used the TSA PreCheck lane, and man oh man is that convenient. No taking shoes off or emptying bags.

TSA PreCheck = Worth it.

Can you see the excitement? Can you see the joy&pain combo associated with leaving your children for a bit?

Those are some big faces on my screen. Sorry about that, most pics will be of beautiful Disney sites. Not those mugs.

Our flight left on time, and we even arrived in Houston a little early. I have flown a lot in my life, but to this day I still get sweaty palms while in flight, and a huge sense of relief upon landing. It is my inner land mammal.... I just can't feel totally comfortable on boats or planes.

Quick layover in Houston and we were off to MCO! Woot woot!

Uneventful flight and landed on time in sunny Orlando!:welcome::rockband:

Here is the view from the faux-monorail. You know you love it.

I am a little happy....

Alright enough of those goobers. We took the Magical Express to POFQ. I had read a lot of mixed reviews on this resort, and I was a bit hesitant to stay there. I am very glad I went with my gut, though, and booked the resort. It is BEAUTIFUL!!!

I would definitely stay here again. No building was very far from another. It was quite and peaceful in the day and night. The pool looked awesome. Not sure why it gets a bad rap, but it definitely felt like we were on vacation once we arrived here.

Port Orleans French Quarter = Big Hit.

Next up: Off to Hollywood Studios!!

Day 1: Hollywood Studios

Once we dropped off our carryon luggage and freshened up, we were off to Hollywood Studios! I believe it was around 3pm. [Note: We did online check in the day prior to leaving and received a text that our room was ready once we landed at MCO. Very convenient!]

At this time of day there was no one at the POFQ resort bus stop. To be honest, during our trip there was never more than 6 families waiting at this stop. It was fantastic.

Cute bus stop!
20170124_155527.jpg

We waited 2 minutes until our bus arrived. We were the only folks on the bus, so we started talking with the driver on our way to HS. We all got along quite nicely, and then learned that he is a fellow Okie!! I tell you, I am not originally from Oklahoma, but since moving here I have found that Okies always seem to find one another when traveling. It was lovely getting to know him and I hope he makes it back to Oklahoma soon :drive:

There were zero people in line at security once we arrived, so we breezed through that. D even got selected for random screening! Not sure why he was so excited about it.

So, listen, I don't go to Disney World often. I don't know what a crowd level of 2 vs a crowd level of 8 really looks like. So I can't tell you what the "crowd level" was while we visited. But there were people. Enough to occasionally get irritated, but not so many that we couldn't make our way around.

I loooooooooove Tower of Terror, so the jumping up and down started right.... about.....NOW:jumping1:

20170124_162801.jpg
Oh yea.... also... Am I the only churro lover left? I spent part of my childhood living in California, and was lucky to visit Disneyland frequently.
Churros = magic, in my childhood. But I did not see a single other person eating one! [You know what... towards closing at HS.... the churro girls gave me free ones.... so jokes on you, churro haters. Free food at Disney. M A G I C:tinker: ]

Anywho, back on track. We had some time before our Tower of Terror FastPass, so we grabbed some food. Where did we get it? What is it? Don't remember. But it was delicious. So you're welcome.
20170124_163228.jpg

Oooooooo time for Tower of Terror!

20170124_170037.jpg
[New side note: Magic Band 2s were awesome. Never had a problem with them, very comfortable, worked great. Would be EXTREMELY USEFUL if they also displayed the time.... considering all the FP+ and ADRs we had to keep up with]

First ride of the trip!:cool2:
PhotoPass_Visiting_STUDIO_7932164994.jpeg

Next up, Rock 'n' Roller Coaster (you can assume I had a churro between these rides, since there is a stand in the middle)

After jamming out until I cried (seriously, that ride makes my eyes water like mad) we decided to try out Toy Story Midway Mania. Standby was 30 minutes, so we figured "why not?".

This is me, in line, before I yelled at the teenagers behind me.
20170124_175500.jpg

The line was pretty cool, but very winding.

Warning! Crowd complaint: I like to think I have low expectations of the people around me. And I do understand that teenagers are at best, bearable. But the teens standing behind us in line brought out the mad-mommy side. They were loud (not a big deal) but also pushy. And then they combined those two irritants together. As in, falling on top of me while also screaming in my ear. So, yes, I did the most expected thing. I YELLED AT THEM TO STOP YELLING. No idea what language they spoke, but I think the Mom tone made them understand what I said. The yelling stopped, I am sure the name-calling began. But by then it was time to ride! :dance3:

The ride itself was pretty fun. I wouldn't do standby again.

After that we rode Tower of Terror and Rock 'n' Roller coaster one more time. Fantasmic! was starting, which kept standby lines super short. We found my friendly churro cart again. I am pretty sure the ladies thought I was nuts for coming back (again), so they just gave me 2 for free. D couldn't decide on a beer choice. The cast members working there were great at letting him try different samples. They ended up giving him 2 beers for the price of one. DISNEY MAGIC:cheer2::earsboy:

At this point, I decided to explore something that I had briefly seen online, but Disney didn't seem to be promoting much. The Disney Express Transportation Service. I read they were trying it out in December, but I wasn't for sure if it was still available during our trip. Turns out, it was, and very few people knew about it. For 24 dollars each we got unlimited transportation between parks (for 7 days), without having to go through security again. At HS, the bus was just past Rock 'n' Roller coaster. We hopped on this bus and took it to Epcot, just as Fantasmic! was wrapping up. It is a "behind the scenes" path, so no photos were taken. I can't remember the exact drop off at Epcot, but it was very close to Spaceship Earth. We had a pretty good view of it "backstage".

Express Transportation between parks = Worth more than 24 dollars!

Up next: Epcot and Beach Club!

Joining in! Also a fellow Okie here and I gotta know what is that delicious looking frozen concoction in your hand??

Joining in! Sounds like a great arrival day so far, you got a lot done at HS!
Hey!! :wave2:I was surprised how much we got done in a just a few hours! I used the Touring Plans Lines app and it helped out a ton.

Yay another Okie!! :cool1: These cold days have me missing that Florida warmth soooooo bad.

I am pretty sure the drink was a *virgin* frozen strawberry lemonade. I purchased it right when we entered HS, and I was just so excited that I'm pretty sure I ordered "ANYTHING PRETTY AND TASTY!!!". I need to get out more.

Day 1: Epcot and Beach Club

We arrived at Epcot at around 8pm and were in desperate need of caffeine. We don't know our way around these parks, so there was a bit of clueless wandering. The moment we saw a Starbucks, the water fountain next to us started dancing and playing music. It was magic I tell you!

We had a 940pm ADR at Beaches and Creme, so we decided to kill some time exploring the world. Man I love shopping at all the different countries! I didn't take nearly enough pictures, but I will show you this tiny stein we picked up.

20170124_202437.jpg
Adorable, right?? In Germany they also had some beautiful cuckoo clocks that I was very tempted to pull the trigger on, but decided against it. If you are a shopper, allocate some extra money for Epcot. Really unique finds!

We stood on the bridge at the back of the World and watched IllumiNations, which was breathtaking. We then started our journey to the Beach Club.

One thing to note about my husband and I is that we have terrible sense of direction. It's a good thing we enjoy walking a lot, because we seem to always take the wrong route.

If you do enjoy late night strolls, definitely hit up the boardwalk area. It is so beautiful at night, and there were various street entertainers throughout.
20170124_211835.jpg

At this point it was getting cold and we were lost. We eventually did find our way to the Beach Club resort, but then got lost in there as well. We were cold, tired, lost and borderline hysterical while asking cast members for directions. Luckily, they didn't call the authorities and instead guided us to Beaches & Cream Soda Shop!

I started planning various WDW trips in January of 2016, and right away I knew I wanted to try this place out. We didn't have high hopes for the dinner portion, since that isn't really what they are known for. I ordered the Grilled Cheese and tomato soup. No picture, it wasn't very impressive looking and it wasn't very good. D ordered the Rueben, which he said "wasn't bad". That's as much of a description as you will get out of him on anything.

But that was OK! Because ICE CREAM! We ordered the No Way Jose to share.
20170124_221614.jpg
Look how excited we are!

But, sadly, it did not live up to expectations. We didn't find the ice cream to be all that wonderful, neither were the other flavors. It seems the appeal isn't so much the taste of the ice cream, but the amount you get. Which might be great for some, but we left disappointed.

[Side whine: Our waitress was very nice, but truly bad at her job. She had 4 tables and every single one of us had to keep hunting her down and begging her to bring our food/drinks/tab. As a former waitress, I know the job can be exhausting. But you gotta at least visit your tables every 10 minutes. That in itself may have also shed a negative light on the dinner.]

I am glad we tried it, but I won't visit again. Luckily, this was the only bad meal and service we had the whole trip!

We were not excited about the voyage back to our resort. It was cold, we didn't have jackets, and we were very sleepy.

Maybe there is a better (free) way to travel back and forth between resorts, but we didn't know at the time. We took the bus from Beach Club over to Disney Springs, then took that bus back to POFQ. Took about an hour.

Back in the room we see our luggage had arrived! Yippee!

We passed out quickly. But didn't get to sleep for long, since we had to be "up and at-em" early for Day 2!

Day 2: Universal!

Okie #3 joining in here! I can't wait to go on an adult trip to Disney!

Day 2: Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure!

I do realize this is the Disney TR board, but our Universal excursion was one of my favorite parts of our trip, and we did it in a small amount of time. I have to share!!

We got up around 7am and after a quick freshening up, decided to try out our resort food court.

Here is a (not great) photo of part of Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory.
20170124_153551.jpg
I found the area to be beautiful. It was very clean, never that crowded, and the service was awesome. There was a large breakfast selection. Some traditional options and even a few New Orleans authentic options.

I didn't have a huge appetite, so I got some beignets and a parfait. I was pleasantly surprised with how good both these items tasted! You don't have to get the big shabang breakfast to have something delicious. (I realize this doesn't look like a small amount of food, but in comparison to the other offerings....)
20170125_082717.jpg

So! Bellies are satisfied, coffees are in hand, and we were about to try our very first Uber!! I researched various options for transportation between Universal and WDW, and when it came to convenience and cost, Uber seemed to fit the bill.

In case you are hesitant, trust me:

Uber = AWESOME :car:

Our driver (Orlando... so cool!) got us to Universal Studios quickly and for $13 dollars.

Upon arrival, the lines were massive!! But going through security was much quicker than the WDW parks. They use metal detectors (like at the airport) vs digging through each and every bag.

After security we walked through City Walk, which I wish we had stayed to explore more. I really like that you go through security to get to City Walk, but you don't need a ticket to for the area.

I used Touring Plans to plan our US/IoA day, so we were starting at the Universal Studios park.
20170125_092625.jpg
The crowds seemed heavy at security and gate admission (since it was opening time), but they very quickly dispersed.

We decided to purchase the Express Passes, which are not cheap. I still can't quite decide if it was worth the money or not. My husband swears they were worth it, but if you watch how line times fluctuate, we could have probably done without them.

First ride: Despicable Me Minion Mayhem!
0 minute wait at opening. I hear the wait gets verrrrrry long later in the day, so hit this up first.
Waiting to be minion-ized!
20170125_093821.jpg
The ride was fun. I quickly came to realize that the majority of rides here are 3D motion rides. But I enjoy them.

Next up: Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit.

Oh. My. Goodness. I love coasters. I have never been more frightened on a coaster... ever. This ride is every bit as awesome at it is terrifying. You can pick your tunes, which didn't mean a thing for me because I was screaming "I don't want to die! I don't want to die! No no no no!" the whole time. And the best part: They video you while you ride! I had no idea! My biggest regret of that day was not buying the video of D and I on that ride. Absolutely hilarious!

We did a couple more motion rides (they are all fun, you should ride them), but I could not wait any longer. It was time.

DIAGON ALLEY!!!!
20170125_111947.jpg
Man oh man. I can't even describe how awesome this area is. Totally worth the price of admission. I just couldn't stop looking at all the details. Super magical.

The wait for Escape from Gringotts was 10 minutes, so we decided to try it out. We were right about to get on the ride when they decided they needed to remove one of the cars. I guess the sound wasn't working in it? Sounds quick. It was not. About 30 minutes later we got on!

One thing I noticed about many of the rides at US is that many queues have a lot of stairs. I didn't see this so much at the WDW parks. This one especially had a fairly long, winding staircase you had to climb before boarding the ride (I'm sure there is a lift available to those who need it). Rides at US and IoA also have pretty strict size requirements. Meaning if the bar/belt/etc doesn't go down far enough, they will not let you ride. I saw this happen to a few folks, and it was heart breaking. So much time and effort, just to be turned away at the end. They do have seats at the beginning of the queue for you to test out first. But it was still sad to see the disappointment in their face.

I am now realizing I didn't take nearly enough pictures. I will do better next time.

After escaping from Gringotts (very very fun ride, btw) we decided to try some lunch at the Leaky Cauldron.

You guys! This place is awesome! The atmosphere is beautiful!
20170125_112248.jpg
I will work on my photo skills. I promise.

I don't remember what D ordered. But I got the Mini Pie Combination, and they were delicious!
20170125_112647.jpg
It was a Mini Cottage Pie and a Mini Fisherman's Pie and a salad. All of it was very very tasty.

I also tried my first (and not last) frozen Butterbeer. Yikes it is delicious! I ended up have 2 on this day, and I regret not having 3.

After filling our bellies, it was time to board the Hogwarts Express and visit Hogsmeade!
20170125_115052.jpg
I thoroughly enjoyed the ride on this train.

Note: We printed our US/IoA tickets at home. Once we entered the US park they finger printed us. For some reason I thought that meant we no longer needed our paper tickets. This was an incorrect assumption. HOLD ON TO YOUR TICKETS IF YOU ARE JUMPING BETWEEN PARKS. You will need them. Luckily I found them smushed down at the bottom of my purse.

20170125_120328.jpg
Hogsmeade is every bit as magical as Diagon Alley. It also has the same shops as Diagon Alley, so if you see something on one side you can probably still purchase it on the other.

[Side note: Anyone know where to buy the school robes? We looked all over the place but couldn't find any!]

It was now time to ride the Forbidden Journey. 10 minute wait! The walk through the castle is amazing. I kind of wish the line was longer so I could have soaked up more. The ride itself is unreal. I researched the technology for this ride beforehand, and it is a very surreal feeling on the ride. Nothing like you have felt before.

This, like many rides, requires you put all of your belongings in a locker before getting in the queue. These lockers are not huge. Shoving a backpack in one takes some effort. Also, be sure that the straps from your backpack are not hanging down after you close the locker. They will get stuck in a different locker while you are away, causing a headache later. Trust me.

I found the locker situations to move fairly quickly everywhere. But we didn't experience massive crowds on our trip, which could have contributed to the ease.

We then explored IoA. The Dr Seuss world was neat. We rode The Hulk, which (as expected) gave me a headache. Some coasters do that, not sure why, but I see I am not the only one complaining of it on this particular ride.

The lockers for The Hulk are a pain. They do not use fingerprints like the others. Instead you have to scan your ticket, which is not as easy as it sounds.

We saved the city with Spiderman and said "What's Up" to some super heroes:

Day 2: Universal continued...

We then took the Hogswart Express back to Diagon Alley to do some candy shopping (for the kids... promise).
20170125_143536.jpg

After we got our souvenirs, we went to the Simpsons area to have a Duff beer at Moe's Tavern.

If you are a Simpson fan, you should check out this area. We were getting tired and had no more room for food, so we didn't try as much as I would have liked. Next time I am definitely trying out a Lard Lad doughnut and a Crusty Burger.

At this point the crowds were getting larger and we felt we had soaked up a lot of Universal. I would have liked to wander through the two Harry Potter sections again, but I knew it would be hard to satisfy my attention with so many people.

So, we got an Uber (under 2 minutes from leaving the park) and headed back to our resort to drop off our goods!

After losing some extra weight, we hopped on a bus to the Magic Kingdom!

20170125_161531.jpg
Hello Cinderella's Castle! There was actually a performance going on, and very few people watching. Strange...

We made our way to AdventureLand for our Pirates of the Caribbean FP. I love this ride pirate:. This was my first time seeing it since the addition of Johnny Depp. I enjoyed the new features.

After riding I saw a window to purchase Dole Whips. I have never had a Dole Whip, and have been eager to try one. But the line to get one was insane. I am talking line-to-get-on-seven-dwarfs-train insane. I would have to wait until another day.

At this point we decided to face the masses and try to find some food. Not a whole lot of options that we found appealing.

While on our search, we saw a little girl (maybe 5) crying to some cast members. Yup, she lost her family. People can be difficult, especially in crowds, but I have had the opportunity to see people come together and care for one another in a way that brings tears to your eyes (living in OK with our crazy storms). This was another one of those moments. Every parent or grandparent that walked by immediately noticed this small girl and stopped, trying to help in some way. Poor girl didn't speak English, and even if she did I don't know how much information she could provide. While we all tried to comfort her and look for her family, a woman comes storming through like a bat out of hell, tears streaming down her face and collapses on top of the small child. It was her Mother and we could all feel the panic and terror emitting off of her. She hugged the girl so tight, I am not sure how long before she finally let go of her. So many tears from everyone around!!! So, scary situation was quickly resolved, and my faith in humanity was once again recharged :grouphug:

But back to the food.

We ended up finding a Quick Service stand that had chicken fingers and french fries. We settled on that, and found them to be surprisingly good. Way to go Disney!

Next up: Haunted Mansion! My favorite!
20170125_175107.jpg

Can anyone tell me why they design the bottleneck after the elevator like they do? It's awful! No matter where you stand, someone feels like you are cutting in front of them. Not a fan of that at all. We purposefully linger in the back so as not to deal with the pushing, but quickly after exiting another group is coming off the elevator, surrounding us and causing the same problem.

Apparently my phone died after this, so no more photos for the day. Continue on for a descriptive timeline.

We then made our way to the Jungle Cruise. This was my first time riding it at night, and it was pretty cool. More spooky than the day ride. I will do that again.

I was able to convince D to ride It's A Small World. Kicking and screaming I tell you, but I got him on that dang pastel colored boat!

I really enjoy this ride. Yes it is cute and the song is easy to remember. But I feel it is a nice reminder for everyone as well. We are all so different, and that is such a beautiful thing. The characters being represented as children is also a lovely representation on how we should treat each other. I don't know any small child who treat others poorly for a specific characteristic. We learn that later in life. It's nice to be reminded how simple things used to be, as children.

We walked over to Tomorrowland in hopes of giving the People Mover a try, but it was broken. Crowds started to cluster in anticipation of the fireworks, so we thought it best to make our way out of the park.

We hopped on a bus to Disney Springs to find something to eat.

In case you were wondering, Disney Springs is awesome.

We ended up settling on Blaze Pizza for dinner, and man-o-man was that a good decision. This pizza is crazy delicious! And you get to design your own!

It was during dinner that we heard how much our kids back home missed us. This trip was getting harder and harder on them and my parents, who were caring for them. After a lot of deliberating, we decided to cut our trip a day short, and rebooked our flights to leave on the 27th vs the 28th.

After dinner mom-guilt was kicking in, so I headed over to the World of Disney to spoil my children. I purposefully brought an extra (empty) suitcase, anticipating that I would feel this way. Good thing I did

We stayed until the shops closed, about 11pm, and took a bus back to POFQ.

On to Day 3, our last full day at Disney...

Such a busy first day! I'm sorry you were disappointed with Beaches & Cream, but overall sounds like a good evening!

SOunds like you were enjoying your time at Universal! Butterbeer is the best thing ever!!

Wow, you guys got so much accomplished for your first day!
I also tried my first (and not last) frozen Butterbeer. Yikes it is delicious! I ended up have 2 on this day, and I regret not having 3.
Yes!! My favorite is the frozen butter beer!
