When Goofygirl posted having problems with her minature roses, Snowwark posted a link to a mini-rose site which had another link to information about grow lights: Growlight link . I learned from this link that regular florescent lighting is beneficial to plants - especially African Violets. Well, I had just recently ditched some AV's because they died. After reading the link, I decided to place my primroses on top of my washer/dryer whch has a florescent light under the shelf hanging just above the appliances. I don't think it has even been a week but they are really perking right back up! :D

So thank you Snowwark for that information and all the information you provide on this board.

Has anyone else used growlights to improve the health of their plants?? Did you buy special lighting or did you already know about the fluorescent lighting info?

I use those silver tin lamps contracters use indoors and pop in a grow light....cheap and easy to use as they just clip on.

Yes, my sister uses them to start her magnificent seedlings! LOL

We also used to use them to grow pot in a closet.

I know....I know.....TMI!

A pot of what, in the closet, igna? I scrambled your name to protect your identity.....lol....:p

Of course you're speaking of medicinal plants.....;) :)

Awww...Tulirose, you're the nicest Tribal Chief I ever knew! :)

We used to have a growlight over the kitchen sink, which is where our small, bump-out south facing greenhouse window is. Since that seemed a little redundant, we took it out. :) :)

You know Tulirose, my african violets seem very happy in the window, but it's too much sun for the primroses, they aren't looking too great. I think I'll put them on top of the washing machine (there's a flourescent light over it), and see if that helps.

:)

Gina!!!   !! This is not "Truth or Consequences" or even "To Tell the Truth"! LOL!!
