Growing Sweet Potatoes in Containers

I have very very recently started a container garden on my back porch and need a refresher as to how to grow sweet potatoes. I started from plants, not seeds, but I was wondering if you cover the top of the plants up as they grow like you do with regular potatoes or do you just let them grow as is without covering them? Of course, who knows if anything will grow, since I started so late, but I thought I would give it a shot anyway! Thanks for any advice!
