Group teacher gift.. Did I faux pas?

Nope. I never give teacher gifts though. It usually always ends up in some sort of issues.

I think $30/family is pretty high for a teachers gift as it is!!! Usually around here they ask for maybe $10/child if that. Is this for 1 teacher or are their 3 teachers? I'm just thinking the teacher must have gotten an awfully nice gift!! 12 kids x $30 = $360!! (I'm assuming since you said per family that some people have more than 1 child in the preschool though).

Our schools stopped allowing this type of "group" gift and rightly so. $30.00 is very steep of a price. I'm a teacher and I would be embarassed if I received that expensive of a gift. Heck, a girl at one of my lower socio-economic schools gave me an ornament and a $20.00 gift card. I felt that was really nice, but over the top.

One of the moms from my son's preschool asked all the moms to go in on a group gift for the teachers. She asked for $30 from each family. Tho I could have found cute gifts and spent less, I decided to chip in with the rest. Monday she mentioned that everyone participated. Today there was a little party thos morning. At least 6 of the 12 kids brought the teachers additional gifts. I felt a little bit bad because my son didn't have anything to give but really I gave $30 already. Do you think I should have given additional gifts?

There are two teachers and one aide.

Thats about right since its three teachers---thats 10.00 per teacher.

I am on both ends of the situation. I sent in the $ for my son's group gift and also got a little something extra-a little box of Godivas. I did not have to, but my son likes to physically give his teacher a gift.

As a teacher-I receive a group gift and some students also give me a little token gift as well. I don't think any more or less of those who do or do not bring in anything extra. And honestly, I LOVE to get a note or card to let me know how much I am appreciated.

That's some gift Is this a public preschool? In my state public employees aren't allowed to accept gifts that are over 50.00 in value.
