group gathering

i recieved a 30% pin code offer and booked a room, about a week later i called and requested a second room for my sister and her family and was able to get the discount as well. travel dates are one day apart. However i am now considered a "group gathering" because its 8 people total.
I know they offer packages to do as a group, but we have no interest in doing any. Has anyone ever done a group gathering and not participate in their activites?

My friend did do that about a year ago. They want to do it agian but do the activities this time to see which is better.

My family and I (21 of us) had a Grand gathering at DW last year. We did not participate in any of the special events such as Illuminations dinner or the safari, to name a couple. I really don't feel like we missed out on anything. We had ADRs at restaurants every night and were usually seated together. Also, at the hotel (CSR) they placed our rooms all near each other, which was great.

We did a grand gathering without any of the extra activities; it was just too expensive for one of the families.
However, registering as a grand gathering was great for a several reasons: they helped us with our reservations; we were able to link up on the internet and discuss or send suggestions to each other - which was fun; and, best of all, on our first night all four families stayed at Pop before heading over to the BWV for the bulk of our trip - we were contacted by Disney grand gathering cm a few weeks before we left and she offered to make sure that our rooms were connected. We never requested that the rooms be connecting and we never paid for any special service yet Disney went out of their way to help us.
