I was wondering what forms of ground transportation are available to get us from the Orlando Amtrak station to a WDW resort?
We are not planning on renting a car for our stay.
We just need transport from Amtrak to the resort and then at the end of the stay, from the resort back to the Amtrak station.
Any suggestions and recommendations are greatly appreciated.

I'm pretty sure a cab is going to be your best bet. I'm pretty sure the Kissimmee station is quite a bit closer to WDW. Getting off there will save you some money. If you google "Orlando Taxi fare finder" you'll be able to calculate the cost.

I have an amtrak thread that answers this and many have posted their ideas too. Taxi ,towncar or rental car.

I'll be using florida towncar in a couple of weeks. I'll report back how it went if you want. Last year I used murray hill towncar and wasn't happy with their service.
I'm getting on and off in Orlando. I don't want to be on the train later or earlier then I have to.
I think a towncar is the way to go, a taxi might end up costing more. They go by the meter, so they can only give you an extimate on what it could cost.

The Taxi Fare Estimator link is in the Popular Transportation Links 'sticky' thread near the top of this forum.

While that's understandable, have you considered that
  • The train fare is the same no matter which station you use;
  • Town car services charge more for longer distances (example: towncars are cheaper between MCO and USF than between MCO and WDW - because of distance);
  • Taxi fare from/to Orlando is more than taxi fare from/to Kissimmee;
  • By boarding the train in Kissimmee, you can be comfortably settled before the train even stops in Orlando.

katie's above post is right on :thumbsup2

board and get off in Kiss instead! Same price.if you already have the tix no need to change them either-just get off where you want to. less crowded and closer to the Mouse.

that being said-I prefer to rent a car. For about the same cost as the 2 trips to and from the station you could have a car for about a week.Some don't want to drive and I get that though. I love saving time so I rent. My last trip we stayed at Carr Beach and we left our room and were IN Hollywood Studies within 7 min!!That is why we have a car :)

disney_girl 125 - please post your experience with Florida Towncar after your trip. I looked at their site but couldn't figure out the approx cost or even if they pick up at the Amtrak station.

We will definitely not be renting a car. So getting a taxi or towncar is the way to go for us. The only thing is trying to find the names of places to contact. Which is why I was looking for suggestions.

I noticed that Tiffany Town Car advertises they do pickups from Amtrak Orlando but no mention of Kissimmee. Read somewhere that you can call Mears as well but not sure if that's for a Town Car or a taxi.

On other posts, people have stated that some places will not pick up at the Kissimmee station. Not sure why. Is it a smaller station so they don't bother? This is why I was planning on the Orlando Station.

If you read the birnbaums book they have a special readers rate of $85 roundtrip for up to 4 people through florida towncar. I could not find a car rental for that cheap!! Just call them up and talk to them. I will definitely let you know how it goes in a couple of weeks.
Everyone seems to have their own opinion of getting off at Orlando or Kissimmee. I took the train last year and had no problem at Orlando. Orlando is the stop before Kissimmee and it's a long stop over. I don't want to stay on the train while others are on their way to disney!! And I looked at the directions from both stations, and they weren't much driving distance at all between the two. Also coming home you'd have to be at the Kissimmee station earlier because the train stops there before Orlando. People have complained about standing in line to board the train in Orlando. I didn't mind at all. We're all getting on, so what's the difference..lol. That's just my opinion though!

$85 round trip sounds great! we used Mears years ago and it was more!! and they showed up late and the driver tried to charge us more than the agreed upon price!!Let me with a bad taste for them. There are cars that rent for $10 a day or less thru the online sites but if you do not want to drive this $85 deal sounds great!

hello, im debating on taking the train from phl to orlando. i checked kissamee and the price is actually higher!

12/23 Kissamee $645

12/23 Orlando $378 :confused3

Both depart philly at 12:25 and its the same train number.

That's odd that you're getting different prices. I'm leaving from Philly. If it's the same train, same time, same date, it should be the same price to get to Orlando or Kissimme. You'll get to Orlando first. Last year I didn't check on any luggage, I carried it with me. The towncar was waiting for me. We got right off the train, right into the towncar, and we were probably at our resort before the train finished unloading in Kissimmee....lol.

I decided to go ahead and book the train. airfares are nuts right now and i hate feeling undecided. if fares come down i'll cancel the train.

im going to get off in orlando but coming back get on in kissamee (i think i read that here somewhere). i dont want to deal with a mob scene getting back!

hopefully i wont look like this :dance3: or this :scared: after that long of a ride! LOL

I got back from disney last week and I wanted to come back to tell you how it went with florida towncar.
I got a call from Tony from florida towncar when I was somewhere in Florida asking me if my train was running on time. I told him that it was. He told me then to call him when we got to Winter park so he could gauge when we'd be there. Got to Winter park, called him, he then told me to call back when we arrived to tell us where he'd be standing. Got off the train and called him. He was suprised that we'd gotten there so quick and said he was 10 minutes out. He told us to wait inside the train station for him. We did, but we were getting annoyed because 10 minutes went by and he still wasn't there. We decided to go outside to look for a cab, and inquire about prices. While we were outside debating the cab he finally pulled up. No apology. He never hooked in his seatbelt, so the seatbelt belt went off the whole trip. Also the whole time he was driving he was texting and swerving out of his lane a bit. My son taped the whole thing on his phone.
Coming back he was on time, and he didn't text too much. It was really bad weather from the tropical storm so i'm glad about that. I won't use them again.

disney_girl125 - Was so excited to see you posted on your experience and then so disappointed.
So sorry to hear you had such a bad experience. The driver started off sounding great and then went bad byshowing up late, and texting while driving and swerving out of his lane. Fortunately you did not get into an accident.
Hope the rest of trip was great.
