Let me give you thscoop. We are going on the Land/Sea package May2 through the 9th. We are leaving Ohio April 28th. We will get to Disney on the 29th. We need a hotel room for 3 nights. We wanted to extend our trip 3 extra days. We will be at the BC for the package. Well it is way to expensive to stay there 3 extra nights. We have decided on the Grosvenor or Holiday Inn. We are not going to the Parks for the extra days. We want to relax ,shop at Downtown and go resoet hopping. We have only stayed at the deluxes and would love to fall in love with the moderates and the budgets so we can maybe do 2 trips in a year instead of 1. So I don't really need one of the resorts for these 3 days. Just something in DTD. So what do you guys think. I have researched the Grosvenor. People either like it or hate it. I am going to research the Hoiliday Inn when I have so extra time. Thank Brenda

Hi Alicnwondrln: Where and when did you hear about the Grosvenor declaring bankruptcy? We are booked to stay there and I don't want to lose my money or be without a place to stay. Thank you for passing that info along. I want to check it out and maybe change my plans.

We just stayed there the 24th and have to say for what they charge per night it is HORRIBLE! Our room had MOLD all over the bathroom, not just around the bathtub but everywhere! The door wouldn't work, if it wasn't for the fact that we had 2 rooms adjoining we would have had to be running back and forth to the desk. There was "poop" on the wall that I cleaned so my 2 dd's wouldn't investigate it since I was the first to use the potty. The entire room was VERY RUN DOWN! It is a $29 dollar a night motel not a $100 a night hotel. The ONLY thing it had going for it was the location to Downtown Disney, but I would have walked from any of the others rather to have stayed there. If it was not for the fact that we checked in late, had prepaid the room and we just wanted to get something to eat at Rainforest and go to bed we would have gone somewhere else.
I was early to rise and get out of there to start our stay at the GF.
I will say that after e-mailing the resort and describing the problems, I did get a call (although I did request to be called) and the man introduced himself and asked me how much I paid for the night. I asked if he wanted any information and he said that my e-mail said it all and he just felt that "My Request" for a refund of 1 of the rooms was fair and didn't ask anything else and appologized for the rude employee's. During the problem with the door the one lady at the front desk real SNOTTY asked if we where putting the key in the door right! Which we where, it ended up being there door reader. They had to replace the entire thing and they did that at 11:00 p.m.. Talk about getting to bed early.

So anyway, I would say go with the Holiday Inn. It looked better, not that I saw a room but at least they have a reputation to live up to.

Sorry for the Neg. response, but for $100 a night it's a rip off.

Wow Wendi: It sounds like it was awful and since I am paying over $100 a night and I will be arriving late, you have just made up my mind for me. We were staying a few nights before we start our stay at OKW. I will definitely cancel my reservation there and ask for the deposit back. It's inexcusable that any room should have those kind of problems. I'm canceling right now.

I cant remember where I read it I guess they are trying to figure it out there not closing or anything
we did Doubletree and got a great rate at
www.mousesavers.com
they have deals all over the place
id rather stay anywhere at Downtown Disney then at the grosvenor
I got a rate of $79 a night at Doubletree for a 1 bedroom suite with breakfast included

Tigger,

I'm sorry that you are changing plans so close to your stay, but I hope you will find it worth the work. I would post a topic asking which of the DD's hotels are nice and clean. Nothing fancy, just clean and comfy would be nice. I have to say that the lobby was clean from what I saw, but that's where is stopped. I hope you find a nice place and enjoy your stay.
It's not worth the "YUK" factor to stay there. Unless you are a TRUE BLUE FEAR FACTOR type of person. :earseek: :teeth:

I'm so sorry to hear about the unfortunate stay at the Grosvenor. Mine, just 1 week before was wonderful and the room was spotless. We spent less than $100 per night as well booking directly through the hotel website.

They were great people who served us there as well. I guess every stay can be different and to each his own.

We were very happy and I've stayed at 2 ** to 5***** resorts in the past. We will definitely be staying at the Grovs. in the future.

I hope everyone's choices are the best for them and the vacation is awesome!!

Pammy,

I am really curious to know what the location was of your room?
Did you have a room in the "Tower" or the outer building?
We where in the outer buildings not the "Main" or "Tower" building.

Thanks,
Wendi

Wendi-

We stayed in the Tower on the 16th floor. I have heard "not so good" things on and off regarding the Courtyard or Patio rooms though. We chose the Tower based on opinions from this board.

I hope your situation was a rarity, cuz it's just not acceptable to be so inconsistant in a hotel.

Pammy,

Well, you just confirmed what we thought. We looked up at the Tower rooms and thought that they looked better than the courtyard/patio ones that we had. Let me tell you, they are NOT nice. I am NOT a picky person, but when the mold was spreading out into the actual room. YUK! Thank's for confirming that though. We only spent that one night there and the Manager didn't even question a thing, which leads us to believe he knows what condition those courtyard rooms are in.

Thanks Again,
Wendi

Wendi, Thanks so much for your honesty even though it was neg. Thats what I like people who tell you really how it is. Well the rate I got I think now is high 88 for the courtyard. I will cancel today. I can get the Holiday inn for 84 for thurs. night and 90 for fri. and sat. and it includes children eatting free. So that alone will save alot for food. The only reason I booked Grosvenor was that it is right across from DTD. But if the hotel is sorta nasty. That I can't stand. We can just drive over. Let me tell you that I bring my own linens and blankets and pillow on any trip I stay in a hotel room. Even last year at the Poly. It is the long running joke about me and my big black duffle bag. I am trying to decide if I need to take it on the 3 day cruise or just grin and bear the beds. Go ahead and laugh everyone else does. HAHAHA. It is so funny when I go on a trip with someone new. When they see me strip the bed and put my own stuff on it. I even have the kids say Hey Mom you got the duffle bag and they are only 6 and 8. Thanks again Brenda

Hi Wendi:
Again, thanks for your honest post and I have canceled my reservation at the Grosvenor. I was starting to have doubts because I had been reading negative and positive reports about the Grosvenor. It does seem that there are no complaints about the Tower rooms, but I don't feel I should have to pay extra for a clean room, all rooms should be clean regardless of price and your post made the decision for me. Especially since we will be arriving very late. They probably give out the cleaner rooms first so no way did I want to take a chance. I am actually looking at another downtown disney resort and/or a few days at a Disney moderate, so I'm sure we will be fine. Again, thank you for your honesty. I love these boards because people are honest and that helps make the right decision.

FYI - I'll be staying in April at the Holiday Inn at Downtown Disney and I got a rate of $25 per night through Priceline so you may want to go that option instead of paying full price.

Bostonlass, I have never used Priceline can you tell me how it works. The cheapest I have found for Holiday Inn was 84 with AAA. But your 25 sounds even better. When you get that great price what are the rules for cancellations. Does Priceline give you their rules. Thanks Brenda

I am always unsure about posting a Neg. about anything. Sometimes it comes back to people saying it was that persons problem. I have a huge problem with that since they where Not there, they did Not hear the situation or see it. That's why I try to be detailed when I do express dislike or positive situations.
I hope you all have great stays. I enjoyed my stay at the GF, now it's time to plan the next one.

Thanks Again,
Wendi

Well I think that there may be a one time cancellation opportunity (one time in your entire use of your life of Priceline), so therein lies the rub. What I did was bid $25 for a 3 star hotel in the "Disney World vicinity". You're not guaranteed that it will be the Holiday Inn but I actually did it twice by accident (bid on a wrong date by mistake...will *never* do that again!!!) and each time got the Holiday Inn at Downtown Disney.

A link to a site that gives tips on bidding for hotels is www.Bidontravel.com/hotels. Apparently depending on the time of year, etc. you can even get the Dolphin for about $60 per night. Another site to try is hotwire.com.

good luck!

Thanks alot. I will see what I can come up with. I have another question for you. Have you stayed at Holiday Inn? If I am to chicken to do Priceline do you think 84 for Thurs. And 90 for Fri. and Sat is a reasonable rate for this hotel. I don't mind spending the money I just want a nice clean hotel. I will get my deluxe later in the week. We will be at the Beach Club for 4 nights. Thanks again Brenda

I've never stayed there unfortunately but I have done some research and haven't heard anything really bad about it. I have just heard that you should try to request a room up high so that you can have a nice view of the fireworks. I called and asked for this but they said that they can only assign specific rooms at the time of check-in. I'm not sure when you're going but we'll be there April 16 and 17 before our cruise so when we get back I'll have a full report. In any event for the price I'm paying I can't really complain unless it's absolutely gross....and kids eat free which will be a help for the times we don't eat at WDW.

That would be great we don't leave till April 29th. Were will you post ? I will be looking for your report. We are going 3 days before our cruise also. The whole kids eat free is great for us. That makes it all worth it even if it is 85 a night. Thanks again Brenda
