Are there any close grocery stores by Animal Kingdom or OKW? Both my husband and I are runners, so we don't mind the milage. We are debating about flying or drinving to WDW, so this may make the difference.
Thanks for the help!

The closest to OKW is about 2 miles - Goodings down at the Crossroads - but it is fairly expensive and can be a tough trip when temps are high - especially the return trip with groceries (ask me how I know).

From AKV there is a convenience store about 2 miles away out on 192, but it would be more like 5 miles to a regular grocery (Publix - also on 192). You can see Kidani village from the Publix area and it's probable 1/2 as the crow flies, but there is no easy way to get there - unless you have a crow. :teeth:

You might want to consider a grocery delivery service like Garden Grocer or WeGoShop and enjoy running without the need to carry groceries at the same time.

You'd have sidewalks over to Goodings, but not to the convenience store on 192.

One of the drawbacks to AKV is that you can't get anywhere easily on foot. Which can be a problem with runners. There's a beautiful gym if you are OK with treadmills. But if you need to hit the road each morning, you'll probably want a car more for access to running than for groceries.

SSR is a better location to a grocery store. But keep in mind if you are buying perishables the grocery is a little bit of a hike from SSR . If you are going when its hot then you may have to jog back to SSR with your items. Also in the same shopping center as the grocery store there are several restaurants there so before going to the grocery store you can also take advantage of eating off property for less and then hit the grocery store on a full stomach. We ate at the mexican restaurant there and the food was good. Lets see I believe there is a taco bell and a red lobster there too.
Also you will need to cross a busy intersection to get to the shopping center so be careful!

or take a Disney Transportation bus to Downtown Disney and either walk or take a taxi from there as it would still be a bit of a walk.

Isn't there a gas station/convenience store across from DTD? Thought maybe I could run over there for beer? It's been a while since we've been there and i couldn't remember.

There are Hess Stations across from DTD and near the Boardwalk. Both are good for 6-packs of beer and a few supplies, but don't have extensive "groceries". Unless you are staying at the BW, or are at DTD anyway, I think it just easier to pay the few extra bucks to buy from the resort store than to spend precious Disney time going to Hess.

Last year we stayed at SSR and took the downtown disney bus to the westside of DTD - aka the 2nd stop at DTD-and walked across the street to Hess to buy pop, water which was $4.00 for a case of 12 & beer and other snacks. Then went back to the bus stop and caught a bus back to SSR.
It was so much cheaper than buying it at Disney.
I would take a canvas bag or something strong to carry your purchase in.
They had whole fruit, laundry products, & health and beauty items at good prices. They sell subs, pizza by the slice hot and ready to eat, dogs, cappuccino's and coffee to go, chips, cookies & milk.
Worth the trip.

Thanks for the info. I will be visiting the Hess by BWV next week!
