Grocery shopping

Yup! Sorry to tell you, but last weekend I bought chix (1-1.25 pound lobsters) for $2.99 a pound, and lobster meat is about $22 a pound, directly from the lobstermen. On the other hand, eggs are about $2.79 a dozen (in the grocery store), milk is $4 a gallon, and "cheap" Country Kitchen whole grain white bread is $4 for a long loaf, which I think is a LOT for staples!

I could get by on just the lobster.

I also love to go out to Denio's and get the fruits and veggies. When I do I usually save a little more at the grocery store. We have cut back on using potatoes. They are so costly.

I frequent the farmers market at Country Club Plaza on Saturday's, but you have to be careful. I was buying shelled walnuts and shelled pistachios there, until I realized they were $2 a pound cheaper at Walmart.

Our grocery budget has decreased but mainly due to financial necessity. We don't have much money for food. We are a family of 6 and our shopping budget was $400 a month. I try to keep it at $200-300 a month now.
I have a well stocked pantry for the most part. I'm a firm believer in preparing for lean times.
The kids get breakfast and lunch for free at school. I do get WIC for my son and that is a big help. We have a small garden. We recently got free apples off of DH's grandma's tree and free pears off a neighbor's tree. Trying something new this weekend: Bountiful Baskets. For $15 you get a basket of fresh produce. Less expensive then in stores.
We eat very simple meals. Kids and I are vegetarian and DH eats little meat.

Ours has gone up a bit but its because we are trying hard to eat better. We use Bountiful Baskets as well. Their 9 Grain with Omega-3s bread is AMAZING & full of good stuff. We've also found a local source of meat & other products. I have to work some weeks to keep all 3 co-ops straight in my head but the benefits & prices are well worth it.
