So with grocery prices rising and rising fast, What has been the biggest price shock you have found?

We've been eating out of our garden, other peoples gardens and the freezer because there was a lot in there. I guess paper products are my biggest issue. I'm picky about what I use-gotta have the toilet paper, tissues, paper towels I like and only the stuff I hate goes on sale. I'm buying more and more in bulk or breaking down large packages of things and dating/freezing things.
Milk IS expensive but we don't use nearly as much and I buy the organic/non-GMO stuff from Whole Foods anyway so it's always been high. I was looking at the cost of meat the other day-wow! I know that when we finish what we've got, I'll be looking for recipes on cheaper cuts. Thinking about splitting another cow but it's so hard to use it all -even a fourth because we don't eat red meat often. I always thaw a bunch and have a party.

The cost of bread....just regular white bread $2.49 Drives me insane.

Do you use a lot of bread? We don't use much anymore. We've pretty much cut it out of our diets. Once in a while, I make a couple of loaves on Sunday as a treat. We still have our breadmaker and I put together some herbed breads.

It's $1.49 for a full gallon at Aldi in Lexington, KY near Fayette Mall.
I inquired and the clerk stated it is a 2 week promo and started on the 1st.

About the only price increase I have seen that is noticeable has been pasta.

Do you have a bread outlet anywhere near you? Bread is VERY cheap at our outlet, like $0.49 for a loaf of 100% whole wheat.

I went to the grocery store yesterday and paid $3.50 for 1% milk  What a rip...literally 2 weeks ago, I was paying $2.75 for the longest time.

Also, chips have gone up. I sometimes buy Doritos (for DH) at around $2.50-$2.75, but yesterday it was up around $3.50! :scared1: Are you kidding me?! I can buy the Baked Doritos at that price and save some calories as well!

Milk here in New Jersey is $4.29 for a gallon of store brand (ShopRite). I can't believe how inexpensive milk is in other places. What I hate is how much cereal has gone up. We go through tons of it! And the boxes keep getting smaller and smaller, but the price still goes up!

Bacon! I don't make it often, but sometimes for dinner as a treat. Went to buy some the other day and it was over $7!! Just for regular Oscar Mayer bacon! I was sure the last time I bought it I paid $4 something!

Coffee - the large red container of Folgers used to be $6 now it is closer to $10. Milk here is anywhere from $3.50 to $4.

bananas, it's over .50/lb now, pretty much always. And when it does go on sale it's not like you can stock up, you just have to enjoy cheap bananas that week.

But I haven't noticed too many price increases that effect us. I just bought 2 gallons of milk at Kroger for $1.50 each gallon. I've been trying to avoid the middle aisles and just shop the perimeter of the store.

just what I was going to post abut the Folgers, ans that is for the 240 cup not the 270....and ground beef..I used to be able to get 80-85% for $1.99 lb., now $2.69 is a sale. Same for tilapia, the norm was $2.50 a pound, now $2.99 is a sale.

Milk for $1.49 a gallon at Aldi.

HOLY CRAP! :scared1: the milk at MY aldi is $3.49 a gallon! i WISH i could get it for $1.49! the cheapest they EVER sold it, back when they first opened a couple of years ago, was $1.99.

I have been cravin BBQ chips, and I went to Publix tonight. I was going to pick up a bag, even though they weren't a "need". They were BOGO, but $4.29/bag! Sure, it's still "only" $2.15/bag, but all I could see was that it was nearly $5 for a bag of chips.

I can't seem to find any good deals on meat anymore. The cost of bacon is unbelievable. Also, the grocery coupons aren't as good as they used to be.
