Hi,
I will be staying at the Tropicana Inn near Disneyland and was wondering if anyone had tried getting groceries delivered there. I know our room has a mini fridge. Any thoughts/experiences?:confused3

We had groceries delivered through Vons.com and stayed at the Tropicana Inn. It is a mini-fridge so a gallon of milk and large/round deli trays won't fit. We fit the following items in the mini-fridge: half gallon of milk, half gallon of half n half, cheee sticks, yogurt, sandwich meat, a few beverages, small bags of snap peas, small bags of carrots. We ordered our groceries and had them delivered before we arrived. One time, the groceries were in our room with cold items put in fridge. Another time, groceries were kept behind the front counter and cold items were kept in fridge.

Thanks, mckennakendall. This is probably naive but I hadn't thought about getting smaller milks.

Glad to help! Also, I purchase plastic silverware, bowls, paper plates, and napkins. In the morning, we eat cereal and yogurt in our room before heading to the parks. We have lunch in the parks and return to our hotel for some rest. We then eat in our room by making sandwiches along with other snacks. We head back to the parks and get a treat like a churro, Dole Whip, or some other goodie!

I don't have experience with the Tropicana Inn particularly, but we're pretty big grocery shoppers and use delivery services. My husband and son drink an insane amount of milk and I usually buy something like 5 full gallons for a week long trip. I sustain myself with a few of bottles of champagne and Diet Coke.

I was surprised that I could get 2 full gallons, among other things, in the mini fridge at the Grand Californian on our last trip there. For the rest, I own a collapsable cooler and kept that full of ice on the balcony. This isn't the exact one, but ours is something like this. http://www.amazon.com/Collapsible-P...1419873941&sr=8-5&keywords=collapsible+cooler
It collapses flat, is lightweight and is easy to pack in our suitcase.

As far as dishes, we bought a small set of plasticware that looks like the real deal at Target years ago that travels with us. I'm not a huge fan of the totally disposable stuff, and it makes our meals seem nicer. Target has a wide selection and its sold by the piece. I think I bought us 3 place settings and a couple serving type trays for around $20. And because I am a huge dork, I picked the set that would match best with our DVC room. --->big dork<-----

We are also staying at the Tropicana and planned to have groceries delivered. Von's does deliver.

I spoke with the hotel and their rules are:
1) No perishables
2) If it is a grocery store delivering it must be delivered within the hour of your arrival.

Hope this helps! :)

No perishables! Too bad. I suppose we can always grab milk at a corner store. I tried to email the hotel three days ago...no response. I was trying to avoid a long-distance call.

I know! I was/am bummed too as I planned on having milk, string cheese and pre-packaged apple slices delivered. Boo. I called today and that is what the front person said, maybe I will call again before our trip (Feb 19th) and see if I get different info. :confused3

I wonder if we have it delivered AFTER we arrive if we can get perishables? I will have to call and ask them that. Now that I think about it, I get the impression she was referring to them being delivered before we arrived, which I would prefer, but if I can have it delivered an hour or so after we there that would be fine too.

I'll let you know if I find out any other info. :)

Just got off the phone with a different front reception person at Tropicana. She said as long as you're there at the hotel you can have any grocery item delivered (I specifically mentioned milk). It's when you have not checked in or are not there that they worry your perishables will go bad, they can't guarantee they will be refrigerated, etc. Makes sense to me! :)

Thanks, momsmail,
Do you know if they'll put them in your fridge from you if you are not in your room? We are landing on a Friday morning but will be ditching our bags (probably before even officially checking in) then running to the park. By the time that 'check in time' rolls around, we hope we won't need to be in the hotel...

After speaking to 2 different people, it's my understanding you have to be present at the hotel to have perishables delivered. :(

FWIW, I have used Von's multiple times and I have always waited at the hotel because we've ordered alcohol. They've always been on time, I've never kept me waiting.

Also from experience, schedule your delivery ASAP to ensure your preferred delivery time. You don't have to submit your final list until the night before.

I looked earlier and it seems as though their schedule is 20 days out. Does that sound right to you? Thanks for the info!!

does anybody know if Von.com will deliver to the onsite properties?

I think they will. I've been googling this as we're arriving next Sunday. From what I gathered you have to be there if you order alcohol but if you do not, then the onsite hotels will take delivery for you. Hopefully someone else with actual experience can chime in.

We have had Vons deliver to PPH and the DLH. I was there both times. I can't remember if the bell desk would accept the deliveries, but I'm thinking they wouldn't, especially not for perishables or alcohol.
